£150k-a-week star told to sign with Toon – Newcastle to make move for Madrid star – Guimaraes message sent
Here is a roundup of the latest Newcastle United news and gossip from icfootballnews over the past 24 hours –
Former United States international Eric Wynalda has told Chelsea star Christian Pulisic to snub interest from Leeds United and join Newcastle United.
The American star was hailed as one of the best and most exciting young wingers in world football – and his performances for Borussia Dortmund lead to Chelsea spending £58 million for the player
However – despite some decent performances in that Chelsea shirt – Pulisic has not hit the heights that many had hoped for and has fallen further down the pecking order after the arrival of Raheem Sterling
That has led to some shock reports in the media which have claimed that he is ready to leave the club – and Chelsea are very much open to letting him leave Stamford Bridge if they receive the right offer.
What has he said?
Speaking to the Vegas Insider, as quoted by Newcastle World, Wynalda said: “I think if he ends up making a move in January, after the World Cup, I am starting to lean more and more towards the direction of Newcastle.
“Things that I am hearing about the money they are going to splash is interesting. I don’t think Leeds, for example, would be a good spot for him.
“That’s not a team that is going to score a ton of goals. He’s going to be on the end of a lot of quality if he stays at Chelsea, he’s just not going to get the minutes that would equate to big numbers.”
There is no doubt that Pulisic has alot of potential and quality – he just cannot get to his best at Chelsea and we would not be surprised to see him depart Stamford Bridge in the coming windows.
Guimaraes message sent –
Newcastle United will not entertain bids for Bruno Guimaraes in upcoming transfer windows – Kevin Campbell has told fans
Guimares joined Newcastle in January from Lyon for £40million and signed a contract that runs until 2026 – and he has developed into one of the most important players at the club right now
He has been so impressive at the Toon since his move though that It is believed Newcastle are willing to offer Guimaraes a huge pay hike that would take him to around £200,000-a-week and extend his deal by two more years.
Rumours have been circulating in the media over the past few days that some Premier League rivals are eyeing up a possible move for the man – and Spanish giants Real Madrid have also been keeping a close eye
When asked by Football Insider if the Magpies could fend off interest from the likes of Real Madrid to keep their star man, Campbell said: “Signing him was a masterstroke.
“Bruno Guimaraes could have gone to a number of other clubs. Some that are more prestigious that Newcastle, even though they are a huge club.
“The ownership sold him the project at Newcastle though. Could he become a legend there? Of course he could.
“He has not gone there thinking he is going to be the only star. He is there to make a name for himself. When the other stars arrive he will have been the first.
“Real Madrid could come in but Newcastle do not need to sell. They have deep pockets now so they can compete financially.”
It is massive news that Guimares will be offered a new contract – he will surely sign it
He is happy – he is impressing and he is helping Newcastle get to that next level
He is one player that they cannot afford to lose right now
Asensio move to be made –
It has been claimed that Newcastle United will make a move for Real Madrid midfielder Marcos Asensio in the January window
Asensio has won three La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies during his time in Madrid but the winger started just 21 games across both competitions last season.
The Spanish international has a respectable record of ten goals and one assist to his credit this season – despite his limited game time under boss Carlo Ancelotti – and there has been more doubts about his future at the club
Madrid do appreciate just how talented the lad is, and he has been impressive at times, but he has not lived upto the expectations of the club and with Madrid looking to freshen up the side, he is a player that they will reportedly be willing to let go.
He is into the final year of his Bernabeu contract and looks increasingly unlikely to pen an extension after allegedly rejecting a previous offer.
And according to reports on the Goal website – Newcastle are ready to make a move to try and bring the Spanish star to the club in the winter window
Eddie Howe knows that he needs to help take Newcastle to that next step in his career and sees Asensio as a player that will help take the club higher up the Premier League table
Look, there will surely be no doubt that more money will get spent in the transfer window
The Toon have always admired Asensio and if there is a chance to finally swoop in and offer him some sort of deal.
He has huge potential and under the right manager – he could flourish into a world class midfielder – and for the money that is being talked about – it could be a real bargain transfer for the club
