Chelsea must pay sensational £437 million to land world cup winner this summer
Reports have claimed Chelsea would have to pay a massive £437 million to secure a summer deal for Real Madrid star Raphael Varane.
Varane has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the past few months after shock reports emerged which claimed that he now wants to leave La Liga at the end of the season and test himself in another top League, with the Premier League and Bundesliga high up on his possible list of destinations.
Chelsea have been long-time linked with a move for the Frenchman, as Maurizio Sarri is desperate to improve his back-line in the summer, and were even boosted after agent Bruno Satin came out and claimed that Varane is actually considering leaving the club in search of fresh challenges, after accomplishing all he could at the Bernabeu.
However, despite Zidane announcing that a number of big named stars will be sold to finance the clubs summer overhaul, Rai Sport have reported that Real will only sell the French centre-back if his €500m (£437m) release clause is triggered.
Zidane recently admitted that he would not like to see Varane leave the club, as he cannot see a future at the Bernabeu without the French defender.
“I cannot imagine a future without Varane and I don’t want to,” said Zidane.
“He’s a young player, he has been here for eight years and he is doing very well. I’m not going to comment on what is being said outside.
“The important thing is what the player tells me and for now he’s at the best club in the world, he’s won a lot of things and I think he is in a good place.”
However, with a number of clubs chasing the Frenchman’s signature in the summer, Madrid may be forced into selling Varane as there is noting they can do if a player wants out of the club, even if he is in a long-term contract as his unhappiness will effect his team-mates.
Varane is one of the best defenders in the game right now and has accomplished so much during his time with Madrid, so it is very easy to see just why he would want to leave the club and seek a fresh challenge,
However, Chelsea may not have to spend close to the £437 million to acquire the Frenchman as Madrid would surely take £110 million for the defender?
