£45M star ‘would be great signing’ for Hammers – West Ham make offer for star – Board told sign JWP
Here is a roundup of the top West Ham news and gossip from icfootballnews that we think you guys may have missed today –
West Ham have been told to ‘push the boat out’ and just pay up the money to sign James Ward-Prowse from Southampton, by pundit Danny Murphy
WHAT HAS BEEN SAID –
“For me, Ward-Prowse is someone who I would push the boat out for if I was West Ham and pay a little bit more,” the former Liverpool star told White and Jordan on talkSPORT.
“For £40m I would do it, because what you get with him, he knows the Premier League, he is proven. His discipline and work ethic is exactly what Moyes loves.
“He is very, very good at that job in the middle of the park in terms of his defensive work. He’s been a captain for a couple of years. He’s got good leadership qualities.
“And probably the most important thing, Jim, is when you look at the percentage of goals that WEST HAM score from set plays, their percentage of goals, compared to other teams, you have to think that that’s going to go up if Ward-Prowse has taken them.
“Therefore, he becomes much more important to West Ham than he would be to another team because West Ham are so reliant on set plays.
“So for me, look, you’ve got more money than you probably thought you would for Rice. Over £100m for Rice is great business, so if you have to pay £10m more for Ward-Prowse, pay it!
“Get him in the door, get the fans on side and then you can go and tweak. Then you’re in a better place negotiating for other players, whether it be Zakaria, Paulinho, whoever, then at least they’ve got one through the door.”
JWP OFFER MADE –
Southampton have rejected West Ham’s ‘take it or leave it’ £30million offer for James Ward-Prowse, it has been claimed.
Ward-Prowse is a man that West Ham have reportedly decided can help fill the boots of Declan Rice, who left the club earlier in the transfer window for a move to Arsenal.
David Moyes wants to add another leader to the middle of the pitch – somebody that can win games, create and score goals for the side ahead of the upcoming Premier League season.
It has been claimed that WEST HAM have already contacted Southampton over a possible deal for the midfielder, and even made a cheeky £25 million offer, which was quickly rejected.
Now it seems that the Hammers have made another offer for the midfielder, which was again rejected.
WHAT IS THE LATEST –
That would appear to mean the Hammers’ pursuit of the Saints captain is over after their final bid for the midfielder was turned down, with Southampton sticking to their £40m asking price.
However, it is understood David Moyes is still keen to pursue the interest: “Southampton have come back with an answer, and it’s as we expected,” says talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.
“We said this morning that Southampton would hold firm in their valuation, and they are holding firm.
“I’m told the bid was £27m up front, rising to £30m with add-ons, and Southampton have said, ‘No thanks’.
“So, if West Ham are true to their word, their interest in James Ward Prowse will be over, so let’s see, let’s see if that was just a negotiating tactic or a genuine threat.
“But it is understood David Moyes remains keen on the player.”
WEST HAM SHOULD PAY £40 MILLION.
Fans will be sad to see that Rice has gone, they will be happy with the £100 million, but they will also be hoping that the board make a few more signings that will make an impact.
£40 million is not alot of money in this transfer market.
CALHANOGLU TRANSFER CLAIM MADE –
West Ham United would be making a ‘very special’ signing if they secured the services of Hakan Calhanoglu,
WEST HAM may have won a European trophy last season and ended the campaign on a high – but they were in a relegation battle that should never have happened and have now lost Declan Rice.
The club have not done any transfer business so far this window, which is a massive shock to many fans, but it is expected that David Moyes will step up his attempts to sign a couple of stars in the next few weeks.
And that has led to some stunning reports in the media that West Ham are now interested in signing Calhanoglu, in a deal that could cost the Hammers £45 million.
WHAT IS THE LATEST.
Transfer insider Dean Jones revealed that the Hammers are interested in a deal for the man, but he has also claimed there could be an obstacle preventing them from completing the deal.
Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Calhanoglu would be a great signing but this really feels like West Ham fishing out of their depth because this is one of the few players I really can not see leaving Inter Milan this summer.
“Maybe it comes as part of the fact Inter want to sign Gianluca Scamacca, I’m not sure, but I just find it hard to see that this kind of deal can happen – especially with the way West Ham’s transfer business is going.
“It would be very special if it did come through though.”
CAN WEST HAM REALLY SIGN Calhanoglu?
It seems right now that WEST HAM are linked with every player, as David Moyes struggles to make any meaningful signings this transfer window.
David Moyes would love to sign Calganoglu – but we really cant see it happening.
