Arsenal in battle to get deal done as target reveals Champions League dream

Long-term Arsenal target and Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez has asked to leave the club, Sky Sports have revealed.

The Algeria international joined the Foxes from Le Havre in January 2014 and helped them secure promotion to the Premier League in the 2014/15 season.

He then played a pivotal role in helping them secure the title the year before last, scoring 18 goals in 39 matches in all competitions, and picking up the PFA player of the year award.

He has previously asked to leave, saying: “I had a good discussion with the chairman last summer and we agreed at that time that I would stay for another year in order to help the club as best as I could following the transition of winning the title and in the Champions League.

“However, I am fiercely ambitious and feel that now is the time to move on to a new experience.”
