£85M striker to Arsenal latest as Gentleman’s agreement reached!

Fabrizio Romano has handed the likes of Arsenal an update on the future of Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, who has been heavily linked with a January move to the Premier League.

Swede Gyokeres has been a major hit in Portugal since joining Sporting from Coventry in July 2023 and become one of the most dangerous strikers in World football, hitting 43 goals for the club last season.

He was a player that ARSENAL were very heavily linked with signing during the summer window, but his massive asking price was a real problem for the Gunners, and in the end, the decision was not made to make a move for the striker.

But Gyokeres is one of a number of Sporting CP players who could leave the Portuguese club in the wake of Ruben Amorim’s departure, with Arsenal likely to chase the former Coventry striker once again.

United are another of those linked with Gyokeres and Amorim’s appointment at Old Trafford has increased speculation that the Swede could be heading to Manchester. However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Gyokeres will certainly not be off to United in January.

Romano said: “In the discussions between Sporting and Man United when they agreed on Amorim’s exit in November, there was also a gentleman’s agreement for United not to bring in any Sporting player in January.

“This is because Sporting hope to win the title this season and they don’t want to lose any other part of the squad in January, after having the big shock of Ruben Amorim leaving in the middle of the season.

‘My expectation is for Manchester United to eventually look at Sporting players in the summer, if Amorim approves; not in January.”
