£87m star Joining Chelsea says midfielder – Maresca needs £350k-a-week star – Maresca makes statement on Chelsea deal
Here is a roundup of the top Chelsea news and gossip that we think you guys could have missed today featuring Victor Osimhen, Raheem Sterling and Enzo Maresca on Conor Gallagher…
One of Victor Osimhen’s former team-mates has hinted the striker has already chosen his next club amid talks that Chelsea wants to complete the signing of the Napoli star by the close of the transfer window.
There is alot more transfer talk in the media that CHELSEA still wants to add a new striker to the side that has the ability to score goals on a weekly basis, and Osimhen is a plan that the Blues would love to add to the squad.
He has already put in a transfer request in order to force a move out of the club and Napoli are willing to allow the star to leave if the right amount of money is paid – with reports suggesting that £87 million will get the Nigerian star all signed up.
Now – One of Victor Osimhen’s former team-mates has hinted the striker has already chosen his next club as he continues to be linked with Premier League rivals Chelsea and Arsenal.
Unfortunately for Arsenal, Chelsea are still believed to be at the front of the queue to sign Osimhen and one of his former team-mates has hinted a move to Stamford Bridge is close.
‘Osimhen to Chelsea… Here we go!!!’ ex-Nigeria midfielder John Ogu posted on X.
Ogu has regularly posted messages of support for Osimhen on social media, recently saying: ‘Osimhen is trending and he’s trending for good. Anywhere you end up star boy, I will be rooting for you. I love you.’
Amid all the speculation and rumours – reporter Iomie Stanley has opened up and again told Chelsea to sign the big man: “£161 million on players that are not ready to make any sort of impact on the club this season, that is what that Chelsea board have been signing.
‘Players that are more likely to keep the bench warm – be sent out on loan or just be forgotten about – that is what the board feel is the right direction of the club – that is what the AMERICAN owners believe is the way forward.
“They need to sign on world-class striker, If they can sign Osimhen, then I would feel a lot more confident about the club’s chances of qualifying for the top four because he is a world-class player. CHELSEA need to change that transfer policy.
‘The game against Man City at the weekend showed that this side arent ready to compete for titles – they are not good enough – and the bench had a bunch of unknowns sitting on it.
‘They should do everything that they can to a striker… Osimhen seems to be the clubs number one target – but they need to make some real quality signings.’
STERLING MESSAGE SENT –
Sky Sports’ Paul Merson has had his say on Chelsea trying to sell Raheem Sterling – who has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge after being dropped from the Blues squad.
Sterling joined CHELSEA from Man City in 2022 for a fee of £47.5million, with the England international tallying 31 direct goal contributions [19 goals, 12 assists] in 81 appearances for the Blues.
However – there has been alot of transfer speculation over the past few days that he is done at Stamford Bridge after the decision was made to drop him from the match day squad to face City at the weekend.
Now amid all the speculation and rumours that he could be leaving Chelsea – Merson has opened up and said that Chelsea need to keep hold of Sterling this transfer window.
He said: “I find the Raheem Sterling one a real strange one. Raheem played in America and did well in pre-season. Raheem’s been around a long time to read the situation and then all of a sudden, before the Man City game, he’s not wanted anymore.
“[Enzo Maresca] needs Sterling – he’s one of their better players. He’s not been great for Chelsea but you’re getting rid of someone better than a lot of other players in that squad.
“It’s like a soap opera and that’s the problem. It doesn’t look good. [Mauricio] Pochettino’s walked away from a big club. In the end, he couldn’t wait to get out of Chelsea. Something’s not right.
“Conor Gallagher’s his captain, is playing every week, then all of a sudden he’s got to get rid of him. It’s not good.
“There’s a lot going on at Chelsea and the manager’s got to hit the ground running. If he doesn’t, the fans will soon get upset.”

Look, Sterling is not the same player that he once was – he is too inconsistent to play for CHELSEA and getting him off that wage bill will be very hard – but it can be done.
That Blues squad is massive so he will not be missed – it will just be interesting to see where the man ends up.
MARESCA MAKES GALLAGHER STATEMENT –
In his pre-Servette press conference, Enzo Maresca was asked on whether it was tough that he didn’t have the chance to work with Conor Gallagher before he was sold to Atletico Madrid by Chelsea
Gallagher enjoyed a good season under Mauricio Pochettino last season and become an established member of the squad, even captaining the side on a number of occasions and earning himself a seat on that plane for England at the Euros.
But CHELSEA decided to sell the England star after continuing their incredible spending spree this summer, signing the likes of Pedro Neto, Tosin Adarabioyo, Omari Kellyman and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
And after seeing the move happen – Maresca was asked on whether it was tough that he didn’t have the chance to work with Conor Gallagher before he was sold to Atletico Madrid
Maresca said: “In this moment, it’s not only for Chelsea; many clubs are selling players from their academies. That is very sad because we all love, like I said in America, in Italy we have [Francesco] Totti who played for Roma for 20 years, was his team. We all love that.
“But now in this moment, the rules are a bit different and sometimes you need to sell your academy players to have 100% profit. It’s the situation but also the rules are there, so we need to try to respect the rules.”

There are alot of CHELSEA fans who believe that Gallagher should have been kept this summer – he has done nothing wrong – he was a solid player for the club that is for sure.
But to get the chance to play for one of the biggest sides in La Liga under Diego Simeone is a massive chance for the man and one that we are sure he will enjoy.
This is a great move for the midfielder that is for sure.
