£97.5m star wants Chelsea deal done – £33M man open to move – Chelsea get green light to sign £40M man
Here is a roundup of the top Chelsea news and gossip from icfootballnews that we think you may have missed –
PSV Eindhoven director of football Marcel Brands has given Chelsea target Cody Gakpo the green light to leave in January.
PSV reportedly value Gakpo at £40m, a fee that hasn’t changed since the summer despite his electric start to the current campaign.
He’s registered 13 goals and 17 assists in in all competitions for PSV this season and is reportedly a player that Graham Potter would love to add to his squad
Now, the Blues have been given the green light to try and get a deal done after Brands admitted that the player can leave in January – should the right offer be made.
‘You have to be realistic. If you talk about Cody Gakpo and the price tag attached to him, there may be 10 to 12 clubs in Europe that can afford him,’ Brands told PSV supporters’ club talk show Eeuwig Trouw.
‘Amounts have not been discussed, but if the right club comes that Cody would like to go.
“Those agreements were already made before I came. It must be a record transfer for PSV anyway. Then you know in which direction it should go.’
In the media it seems like all the clubs are lining up, but the reality is that we don’t know anything about interest or anything yet.
‘It’s quiet. I’ve spoken to Cody, he’s going on vacation for 10 days. If something is at play, it is perhaps known to Cody or his management, but not to us yet.’
Coming from the Dutch League to the Premier League is a massive step up and it would be a big risk by Chelsea to spend so much money.
But the goals and assists dont lie, if the Blues can get the best out of the lad he would be a brilliant addition to the squad
Lukaku wants move –
Chelsea have been told that Romelu Lukaku would like to stay in Italian football come the end of his loan deal.
Lukaku was signed by just over 12 months ago as Thomas Tuchel was desperate to add a world class striker to the attack – and many had hoped that the Belgian would be a massive success
But despite scoring a few goals – putting in a few solid performances – he looked nothing like the striker that banged in goals for fun at Inter Milan – and last summer – the Blues allowed him to leave on loan back to the Italian giants
And since his move back to Inter – he has made it clear that he would like to stay in Italian football and was hoping that a deal could be struck between Chelsea and Milan.
But according to recent reports on Calciomercato, Inter initially hoped to extend his loan spell by another year instead of buying him outright, but Chelsea’s strategy is set to change.
The report says the Blues could bring him back to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season and give him a chance under Graham Potter – or sell him for a big fee.
However – Journalist Dean Jones feels the Belgian is keen for Chelsea and the San Siro-based side to negotiate a permanent move.
Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “He really enjoys his life in Italy. He sees the league as almost perfect for him, particularly at this stage of his career.
“If this can work out in a way that means he does end up staying in Serie A, then he would probably be very open to it.”
Reporter Stanley believes that letting Lukaku leave the club on a permanent basis would be the right idea – as he cant handle the Premier League – he told IcFootballnews: ‘Lukaku had everything to be the deadliest striker in the Premier League – but he cant handle the pace.
‘He looked nothing like the man that fired goals on a weekly basis for Milan and it was the right decision to let him leave – even though a replacement was not really found.
‘Potter would have no idea how to use Lukaku if he was brought back to the club – he would get frustrated at the way the Belgian plays – it would not be a good idea to offer him another chance at Stamford Bridge.
‘If the reports are true and Chelsea will decide to bring him back – it will cause more trouble than it is worth and honestly – it could be a massive mistake – he needs to stay put or get sold.’
Ziyech open to exit –
Fans have been told that Hakim Ziyech is now open to completing a move away from Chelsea in the January window.
Ziyech is easily one of the most gifted wingers that Chelsea have right now and can be world class on his day – but he cant break into that starting eleven on a weekly basis.
His performances have not been great this season and he is certainly a player that Graham Potter will not miss should he depart the club – which is why there has been so much speculation about the man over the past few weeks.
But the winger has been amazing at the World Cup and has helped his side reach the Semi-Finals in Qatar – and Journalist Dean Jones has told GMS that Ziyech is leaning more towards leaving the Premier League than staying there.
He said: “I honestly think he’s a bit more open to joining a club outside of England if he gets the opportunity to do that. That’s just from what I’m hearing.
Obviously, AC Milan still have an interest, so maybe that’s the avenue he looks to go down.”
It is a shame that Chelsea fans have not been able to see the best of Ziyech week in and week out – he really is a brilliant player.
But if he does leave – would he actually be missed?
He has had a very good World Cup and fans have wondered why those performances have been in that Chelsea shirt – so rather than losing him for nothing the Blues should at least get something.
Then use that money to help buy an adequate replacement that will make an impact at the club – something that Ziyech has failed to do alot of the time at Stamford Bridge guys
