But after deciding to stay at the club and prove himself to the Chelsea fans, the Italy international has impressed in the early goings of the new Premier League season and he has been an integral part of Frank Lampard’s side.
And amid talk that Juventus may come calling during the January window, his agent Joao Santos has revealed his client has no intention of moving and plans on staying at Chelsea for at least the next four years.

“There are five years left on his contract and let’s say he’d like to stay for at least another four years.”

Declan Rice has claimed that Mason Mount can follow in the footsteps of Frank Lampard for the next ten years for Chelsea.
After an impressive season with Derby last year, Mount has already established himself as a key figure in Lampard’s Chelsea side this season and has already netted two goals in his opening four games under the club legend.
There has been many out there that believe that Mount has the potential to go on and become a real club legend, and possibly be the man that does the same job that Lampard managed during his time as a player.
And Declan Rice, who spent time with Mount at Chelsea’s academy, believes his friend will continue to demonstrate his eye for goal for the Blues this seasons.
“I’ve said to loads of people, he could score in every game if he wanted to,” Rice said on the Daily Express website.
“The positions he gets himself in, I can tell he’s training with Frank and they are working really well together because he’s like a second striker, making those runs which Lampard used to.
“He’s pretty much immaculate. He’s playing the same way Lamps used to play. I am not surprised he is doing that for Chelsea and he is going to keep doing that there for years.”
Mount is a brilliantly gifted player that is showing just why he has become such a big player in the Chelsea side this season, But the mistake that Chelsea could make is that they put too much pressure on the head of the young man and he starts to go into his shell.
Chelsea could make a move for Juventus defender Daniel Rugani in January if their transfer ban gets lifted.
Chelsea are reportedly making contact with players’ agents as they plan for a busy January transfer window in the hope that their current ban is lifted, as the the Blues expect the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to cut short their transfer ban, which was imposed by FIFA in February.
It will mean that Lampard will be able to delve into the clubs transfer kitty and add a few players to the squad that will add some experience, and quality in the right areas of the pitch.
And one man that could be signed by Chelsea is that of Rugani, who they have been linked too for quite some time now.
It is no secret that Chelsea are huge admirers of the Italian defender and have been tracking him for a while, with suggestions that they were prepared to make a move for the Juventus ace in the transfer window before they were hit with that transfer ban.
But last summer there was constant speculation in the media that Chelsea made moves to sign Rugani in a deal that would have cost just £36 million, something that was never officially made fact by Chelsea, Juventus or the players agent.
However, with the loss of David Luiz in the summer window and the fact that Chelsea are very shaky at the back, Lampard will need to spend some cash to improve the back line in order to get back inside the top four this season.
