Agent opens up and confirms Arsenal offer to sign Newcastle United star Almiron
The agent of Newcastle star Miguel Almiron, Daniel Campos, has claimed that Arsenal approached the striker over a January loan move.
Arsenal were looking to freshen up their attack during the January transfer window and had been linked with a whole host of attackers, including the 25-year old Almiron, who had been impressing over in the MLS with his fine goal-scoring ability.
His performances caught the attentions of a number of Premier League sides, including Manchester United, but it seemed that Arsenal were leading the chase to land the strikers signature with reports even suggesting that an offer had been accepted by Atlanta.
However, Newcastle swoop in at the very last minute and managed to wrap up a deal for Almiron, with Campos claiming that the offer from Arsenal was not good enough.
‘Miguel Almiron is a footballer who went from less to more, now he is a more complete footballer,’ Campos told Paraguayan radio station ABC Cardinal.
‘There was interest shown by Manchester United in Miguel Almiron but they never made an offer.
‘Arsenal and Southampton offered loan deals for Miguel Almiron but we did not want it to be a loan.’
Did Almiron make the right move in January?
Almiron had been impressing over in the MLS, but the American league is nothing compared to the Premier League and he may have struggled to even get into the starting eleven at the Emirates, so it was probably best that he chose Newcastle, as he will get the game time he needs to adapt to the English game.
So if he impresses over the next few months it would not be a big surprise to see the Gunners make a move in the coming transfer windows, especially if Almiron manages to score in the goals that Newcastle are hoping.
However, Arsenal need to invest in areas of the squad that need improving as their attack is already one of the best in the Premier League.
