Agent confirms Liverpool interest in Brazilian, Reds working hard sign up defender, Liverpool trying hard sign up worldie
Here is a roundup of the top Liverpool news, gossip and transfer latest from icfootballnews that we think you guys could have missed today…
The agent of Manchester Unite flop Anthony has revealed that LIVERPOOL were very interested in getting the Brazilian signed up before he made the move to Old Trafford just a few seasons ago.
During his time at Ajax – Antony established himself as one of the most creative players in Europe and a man that Liverpool believed could have replaced Mohamed Salah, if he decided to leave the club back in 2022.
However – The winger has failed to put together any sort of consistency since his move to the Theatre of Dreams in the summer of 2022 and has looked nothing like the player that dominated at Ajax.
Salah, meanwhile, has further cemented his status as an all-time Liverpool great but uncertainty is growing over the Egyptian’s future once again, with his current deal due to expire at the end of the season.
Now the agent of the Brazilian star has opened up and revealed that Antony was a target for Liverpool: ‘Yes, this story has some basis in truth,’ Antony’s representative Junior Pedroso told winwin when asked about The Times’ report about his client.
Pressed on whether Antony ultimately preferred United over Liverpool, Pedroso replied: ‘No, Salah renewed his contract with Liverpool at the time and that made Anthony’s move to LIVERPOOL impossible.’

Antony has been awful since his move to Old Trafford and has not looked good enough to play in that Man Unted side – so letting him depart the club in the coming windows will be a good decision to make.
If he wants to stay and fight for his place at the club – great – but he needs to step up his level a couple of times before he is good enough for Manchester United.
LIVERPOOL really dodged a bullet by not signing the star that is for sure.
LIVERPOOL WORKING HARD OVER VAN DIJK DEAL
It has again been claimed that Liverpool are working feverishly to convince Virgil Van Dijk to stay at Anfield and agree a new contract with the club and end all the speculation regarding his future in Merseyside.
At the very beginning of the summer window, LIVERPOOL lost Jurgen Klopp and quickly replaced him with Dutchman Arne Slot, who has a big reputation in the game of football.
That also led to all sorts of speculation and rumours in the media that Slot would be backed by the board and will be able to sign a number of players to help him play the kind of football that he likes, but so far, no signing has been made.
However – the club have not yet been able to agree a new deal with one of their star players as The Dutch centre-back’s current deal expires next summer, and there has been alot of speculation that he could leave the club.
But Goal website has claimed that Van Dijk is one of a number of players that Liverpool do not want to see leave the club and are feverishly trying to get him to sign a new contract.
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk recently claimed that he is not concerned that his contract situation at Anfield will cause a distraction this season – Van Dijk recently told Sky Sports: “I’m very calm [about my future]. The thing is, I want to play the best season I can again. I want to be important and stay important for the club.
“What happens? Let’s see, but I’m very calm about my situation. There’s no reason for me to think about something else because I have the whole season to play.
“Whatever happens now, Anfield has a special place in my heart. And it’s been successful. Let’s see what happens.”

Look, Van Dijk is a world class player that has been brilliant for Liverpool over the past few seasons – but he is not getting any younger and could seek a fresh challenge at the end of the season if LIVERPOOL are not competing for all the big titles.
Until that new deal is signed there will be alot more rumours about the player – but it will be interesting to see if he does agree a new deal as clubs will be able to make moves in the January window.
RED WANT SALAH TO SIGN UP
Negotiations between Liverpool and Mohamed Salah’s representatives are underway, and the Reds are reportedly working very hard to get the star to commit his immediate future to the club.
Salah has been one of the very best players in the Premier League for quite some time now and is a real source of goals for the Reds, with his goal-ratio up there with some of the best finishers in the game.
However – he is out of contract at the end of the season and there has been alot of speculation and rumours about his long-term future, as there has not been any talks opened over a new contract at the club, and he has shown no real desire to agree a new deal.
However – Negotiations between Liverpool and Mohamed Salah’s representatives are underway as the Reds look to try and convince the Egyptian star to agree a new contract before the opening of the January window.
As Salah’s contract nears its final six months in January, Liverpool faces mounting pressure to reach a resolution. With the January transfer window approaching, Salah’s future could become a key topic for both Liverpool and potential suitors if negotiations continue to stall.

Look, Salah has achieved everything he possibly can at Liverpool, he has no more to prove at the top of the game and to be honest we would not be surprised to see him take a massive contract and make that move to Saudi Arabia.
Liverpool will find it very difficult to replace a player that was only signed for £15 million, but at the end of the day, the fans will thank him for all he has done and he will go down as one of Liverpool’s greatest ever players.
But it will be interesting to see where he ends up and it will be interesting to see who Arne Slots brings in.
