Club president Cairo opens up and Chelsea deal for defender Aina is signed and sealed!

Chelsea defender Ola Aina is set to join Torino in a deal worth £8.9m, club president Urbano Cairo has confirmed.

The 22-year-old impressed during his season-long loan at the Serie A club last term, making 32 appearances and scoring once.

However, with the Blues seeking to offload a number of players this transfer window in order to raise some funds to buy some new players, if there transfer ban is overturned, they have decided to let the young man leave.

Speaking to Sky in Italy, Cairo said the club have exercised their option to buy Aina with the current deal set to expire at the end of June.

“We exercised our option to buy Ola Aina, as well as [Christian] Ansaldi and [Koffi] Djidji,” he said. “Now Torino own all their players.”

The Nigerian had renewed his Chelsea contract at the end of last season, signing a deal to keep him at Stamford Bridge through to 2021.

Aina is a young man that Chelsea brought a few seasons ago as they believed that the Nigerian would become a superstar for the club.

However, a combination of loans and Chelsea’s inability to give the younger generation a real chance in the first team has meant that he has had to make the decision to leave the club.

And having agreed some relatively impressive performances for the Italian side, his decision to stay in Italy with Torino could be a good career choice.

He will get the opportunity to stay with the Italians for longer than 12 month, which means he can settle and then make a name for himself in the game.

Chelsea still have a number of players they are keen to offload this transfer window, so it could be a busy few months for the Blues as a number of clubs are interested in some of the best talents associated wit Chelsea.
