Chelsea contacting agents ahead of January as transfer ban to be lifted and Spurs Alderweireld move to be made?
Chelsea may be able to sign players during the January transfer window if their appeal is overturned, and one player that could be signed in the winter window is Toby Alderweireld.
Chelsea are reportedly making contact with players’ agents as they plan for a busy January transfer window in the hope that their current ban is lifted, as the the Blues expect the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to cut short their transfer ban, which was imposed by FIFA in February.
It will mean that Lampard will be able to delve into the clubs transfer kitty and add a few players to the squad that will add some experience, and quality in the right areas of the pitch.
And one man that could be signed by Chelsea is that of Alderweireld, who is still unhappy at Tottenham.
Alderweireld is regarded as one of the finest leaders in Europe right now and has been a big reason why Spurs have been so good under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino over the past few seasons.
But despite many months of contract talks, Alderweireld has been unable to agree a new contract at Spurs, with many reports suggesting Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy is unwilling to break the clubs strict wage policy.
That has led to a lot of speculation in the media that the likes of Chelsea could make a move for Alderweireld in the summer window, but their transfer ban stopped them from making any sort of offer.

However with now deal on the horizon and the fact that ALderweireld could leave Tottenham for free at the end of the season means that Levy may be seeking some kind of deal for Alderweireld, rather than losing him for nothing at the end of the season.
So if Chelsea need, or feel they need to sign a new defender, right now there aren’t too many in the Premier League that are better than Alderweireld. And they may be able to complete a deal for around the £15-£20 million mark, which is not a lot of money for the type of quality that the Belgian is.
If Chelsea are able to sign players during the January window, there could be some big names arriving just after Christmas, as this current squad needs quality in key areas of the pitch.
