Forget Real Madrid as £50 million man Alonso announces Chelsea happiness!
Spanish star Marcos Alonso has once again committed his immediate future to Chelsea following interest from Real Madrid.
Signed by Antonio Conte two seasons ago, Alonso has transformed himself into the best left-back in the Premier League.
His performances for Chelsea last season and then in the first four games this season, led to speculation Madrid were ready to swoop in and take him to the Bernabeu for a reported £50 million.
However, Alonso decided he wanted to stay with Chelsea, and has once again reiterated his desire amid more rumours Madrid want to get a deal done in January.
Alonso said. ‘I never saw myself away from Chelsea this summer. I’m very happy there.
‘Unless the club had wanted to sell me, my wish was and has always been to stay.
‘The day I retire from football I will return to Spain but right now I have three years left at Chelsea and I’m very happy there.’
Here is what we think.
Chelsea would have been delighted to see that Alonso turned down the opportunity to jump ship and join Thibaut Coirtois at the Bernabeu.
His pace, ability to help in the attack and his solid defensive work is integral to the way Maurizio Sarri wants to play.
But if Chelsea fail to get into the top four and challenge for some silverware, then they may have a harder time keeping hold next summer.
