Welcome to the Bridge – Chelsea confirms signing of midfielder on eight-year deal after deadline
CHELSEA have completed the signing of highly-rated midfielder Mathis Amougou just 24 hours after the deadline closed for January.
Amougou was a regular starter for Saint-Etienne in the first few months of the season under their previous head coach Olivier Dall’Oglio, but he has been used more as a substitute under new boss Eirik Horneland.
Chelsea have been keeping a very close eye on the development of the midfielder and decided to make the move to bring him to Stamford Bridge for a fee of around £12 million, he has also signed a massive eight-year deal.
The Blues posted on the club website: ‘Amougou has become a regular for Saint-Eitenne in Ligue 1 despite being his age, starting nine times and coming on in a further eight matches following the team’s promotion last summer.
‘The talented teen has also impressed on the international stage, winning the Bronze Ball at the Under-17 World Cup in 2023 and becoming a France Under-20 international earlier this season.
‘On Tuesday it was confirmed the midfielder had signed an eight-year contract with the Blues and he was at Cobham earlier today, where he caught up with one of the club’s official photographers’
Reporter Iomie Stanley says…
‘Amougou is one of these talents that Chelsea have been hopes for, he clearly has alot of potential but is a long way off being ready to make a real impact at Stamford Bridge, he may get some minutes this season, but he can expect to be loaned out for a few years from next season.
We can see why a move to a massive clubs like CHELSEA is appealing but come on, if he is was not getting the game time at Saint-Eitenne, he will not get it at Chelsea. This is a move that he may come to regret.’
