Mikel Arteta told possible 23-goal hitman ‘would be a ‘great option’ for Arsenal

Gunners icon Nigel Winterburn has encouraged Arsenal to make a move and bring ex-Chelsea star Tammy Abraham back to the Premier League after his impressive stint in Italian football this season

The Blues made the big decision in the summer to offload their academy graduate to Jose Mourinho in favour of using the £34million plus more to re-sign Lukaku, who established himself as the most dangerous striker in Italian football.

But He has not scored the goals that Thomas Tuchel would have liked and there has been alot of speculation in the media suggesting that the German boss is keen to bring in another forward.

Whilst Lukaku himself is still working to try and adapt to Thomas Tuchel’s system in west London, Chelsea’s former number 9 has been thriving on the continent under a manager that wants him to become a ‘monster’ in front of goal

The England international scored two more in Sunday’s derby with Lazio to take his tally to 23 for the season, and And now the Serie A club are attempting to ward off interested parties by placing a huge price tag on the forward

While Winterburn doesn’t think the striker would move back to the Premier League next season, the Arsenal legend suggests he would still be a good signing for Mikel Arteta’s side.

‘Back in the summer when he was moving, there was a link with Arsenal, I don’t know how strong, but he fits into the bill of what Arsenal were trying to do,’ Winterburn told FreeSuperTips of Abraham.

‘A young player with huge potential, so my opinion doesn’t change that he would have been a great option for Arsenal.

‘I would suggest that if he’s enjoying himself, then he wouldn’t want to move.

‘He’s playing regular football, so I don’t feel like he would move back to England next season.

‘I don’t see why he would move back, sometimes when you move and get that freedom, that game time you wanted and scoring goals it does wonders for you.

‘I always remember Arsene Wenger saying that Nicolas Anelka felt he moved two years too early.

‘I’m not expecting Tammy Abraham to move, someone’s taken a chance on him and he’s repaying that faith.

‘But let’s wait and see, I imagine he’ll be looked at because he’s young and someone who will be on a upwards trajectory, so there’s always going to be interest.

‘I would be surprised if Roma wanted to sell him on, I think he’ll want that security and continue to enjoy himself next season.’
