Director statement OFFICIALLY gives Arsenal green light to sign up powerful Bundesliga star

Arsenal, arthur

Arsenal have been given a huge boost in their reported pursuit of Borussia Dortmund centre-back Manuel Akanji this summer.

With Mikel Arteta looking to spend some serious money during the summer transfer window, there was some speculation in the media that the Gunners Boss is seeking to add some world class defenders to his squad, with a number of players on the list

Arsenal may be in the top halve of the Premier League, but they have already shipped too many goals this season and are in need of adding an experienced defender to that back-line in order to shore the the defence for next season.

Gunners officials held concrete discussions with their Dortmund counterparts earlier last summer year, but Borussia were said to have blocked the Swiss international’s departure – as they did not want to lose anymore big players

However, this coming summer will be a different story and now the Gunners have pretty much been given the green light to try and get a transfer deal done for Akanji after it was revealed he will be leaving Dortmund

The Bundesliga club’s Sporting Director Sebastian Kehl told Sky Germany, via the Mirror: “Manuel has a contract until 2023, does not want to extend it, and there is currently nothing new.

“We are in close contact with him and his advisor and are waiting to see what happens now.”

Akanji is looking like a decent centre-half that could turn into a top-class player, but right now he is not ready to make the step up and play for a side like Arsenal, especially since Arteta need a big name

So even though he one day dreams of a move to the Premier League one day, he may not get one for a good few years as he is simply not ready to make that Move to Arsenal and make an impact on the side.

Money may be an issue for Arsenal in the transfer window, but they need to be looking at more top-class players than Akanji.
