Not worth it! Ex-Arsenal star opens up and lays into £72 million winger Nicolas Pepe

Former Arsenal star Jeremie Aliadiere has his doubts about Nicolas Pepe’s £72million transfer fee.

After having a breakthrough season last year for Lille, Pepe managed to secure himself a massive £72 million move to the Emirates as Gunners boss Unai Emery felt he needed to bolster his already impressive attack with another winger.

But despite some classy glimpses of what is to come from the young man, Pepe has so far failed to fulfil the potential that many Arsenal fans had hoped after the club broke the club record to acquire his services ahead of Bayern Munich, as he is really struggling to adapt to the Premier League.

Last season he hit 35 in 68 starts for Lille and many believed he would come in and become a real star for the club, and although he hasnt hit the heights just yet, Mikel Arteta is working wit the young man in hope that he is able to get the very best out of his ability.

However, former Arsenal star Aliadiere has opened up and admitted that he is worth that amount of money, he said on the Metro: “I saw what he did with Lille last season and he is an amazing player.

“So, I’m not denying his talent.

“What I’m seeing, though, is the most expensive player in Arsenal’s history and even if you don’t want to think about the money, the fact is that money is, unfortunately, a big thing in football.

“And when you spend that much money on a player, you expect more goals and you expect more assists.”

Look, It is not easy for such a young player to leave everything he knows and come to the best League in the game, so it is easy to see just why he has struggled but now he has a coach that believes in him and will hopefully give Pepe the confidence he has been lacking so far.

However, saying that, Arsenal did go a little crazy and spend too much money on the man that still has a long way to go before he can claim he is worth £72 million.
