Arsenal announces midfielder deal – Arteta told sign striker – Spaniard be offered contract of a lifetime’ from Arsenal
Here is a roundup of the top Arsenal news and gossip that we think you guys could have missed today –
Sambi Lokonga has joined La Liga side Sevilla on a season-long loan, Arsenal have confirmed on the club website.
Mikel Arteta and his brilliant ARSENAL side alsmot managed to take the Premier League title off of Man City and were just win away from achieving their dreams this season.
However – it was never meant to be and now Arteta and co. will be looking into improving the squad over the course of the summer window and adding players tp the side that can improve the squad.
But it seems that there are also a number of players that will be moved on as it appears Arsenal have held discussions over the futures of their fringe players.
Albert Sambi Lokonga spent last season on loan at Luton Town and impressed but the decision was made to allow him to leave the club on another loan deal and Sevilla quickly made the move to get a deal done.
Arsenal posted on the club website: ‘The 24-year-old midfielder spent last season on loan with Luton Town, where he made 17 Premier League appearances in the Hatters’ first season back in top-flight football for over 30 years. Sambi became an integral part of the Luton team during the season, producing strong performances throughout the campaign for Rob Edwards’ side.
‘Since joining us in July 2021 from Anderlecht, Sambi has made 39 Gunners appearances in all competitions, including featuring in 12 of our first 13 Premier League matches of his debut season. Sambi also spent some time on loan in south London with Crystal Palace for the second half of the 2022/2023 campaign, to help steer the Eagles to safety.
‘This next step in Sambi’s career represents a great opportunity for our Belgian international midfielder to further fulfil his potential by competing at a high level in a top European league.
‘Everyone at ARSENAL wishes Sambi all the best this coming season in Spain with Sevilla.
‘The loan deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.’
ARTETA TOLD TO SIGN STRIKER –
Arsenal need to make sure they sign a new striker this summer window – according to reporter Iomie Stanley.
He told icfootballnews:’ We can all agree that Arsenal had an amazing season last year – they played some beautiful football and should have won that Premier League title from Man City.
‘But we also can all agree that Man City are one of the most dominant sides in Premier League history and with Pep Guardiola as boss of the club – they are very hard to beat and even harder to take the title off.
‘ARSENAL were lucky with injuries last season and didnt have too many first team players out on a regular basis – that will not be the case this upcoming season as alot of players havent managed to rest because of that Euros – so more injuries will surely happen.
‘Man City had alot of injuries last season – but they still managed to score alot of goals and win that League – so Guardiola knows that Arsenal must delve into that transfer kitty to improve the squad.
‘Kai Havertz will probably score you 15 goals, Eddie Nketiah will be lucky to get double figures and Gabriel Jesus spends most of the time watching the game he loves from the sidelines because of injury, so a striker is needed.’
‘Arteta knows what the club needs, the fans know what the club needs, and many in the media believe that a 30 goal a season striker will help Arsenal win that Premier League title.
‘If ARSENAL can sign a striker this summer window – it will send a real statement of intent – and honestly would get alot of those Arsenal players worried.’
ARSENAL WANTS MERINO –
Arsenal have joined Aston Villa in the race to sign Real Sociedad and Spain midfielder Mikel Merino this summer.
The Gunners have been linked with so many players over the past few months as many fans expected the Gunners to bring in a few quality players to add to the squad, but so far only David Raya has been signed by the club.
But it is widely expected that ARSENAL will look to add to that attack this transfer window – and Merino is a player that has been linked with a move to the Emirates over the past few weeks after his impressive performances in the Euros 2024 for Spain.
Per Mundo Deportivo, the Gunners are all set to offer a ‘contract of a lifetime’ to the Spaniard as they emerge as favourites to land the player in the summer transfer window.
Aston Villa are also in the chase to land the star – but Arsenal are reportedly very confident on getting a deal done for the £35 million rated Spaniard.

Look, Arsenal know what players they need to help drive the club forward over the next few seasons – and if they truly believe that Merino is good enough to make an impact at the club – they will.
Mikel Arteta has not been making the signings that many fans had been hoping for – but the next few weeks could see alot of players coming and going for the club – Merino would be a very good squad member.
ARSENAL dont need to sign players to be regular starters – they need to add depth and Merino would have to be ok with that.
