Arteta opens up and announces ‘he is delighted’ Arsenal have wrapped up another January deal
Mikel Arteta was delighted Rob Holding decided to sign a new contract and stay at the Arsenal.
Holding has never really been a massive player of the first-team squad and has only made 96 appearances since his move to the Emirates back in 2016, with reports even suggesting that he could have left the club in the summer.
The defender was about to join Newcastle in the summer, with reports claiming that a deal was very close, but the manager intervened in order to keep him in north London in hope that he would step up and play a big part of the side this season.
And after seeing the defender agree that new contract, Arteta has revealed his delight at the deal: “Since I started as manager, I have been hugely impressed with Rob’s contribution to the club and the dressing room, on and off the pitch,” he told arsenal.com.
“The quality of his work every day on the training pitches is excellent and he is translating this into consistently high performances in matches.
“We all know Rob’s quality, which he has shown in his displays during the intense moments of those two FA Cup final victories. We are all very happy that Rob has signed a new contract, he is very popular with all the players and staff, and we’re looking forward to watching him continue to grow with us in the coming years.”
We have said it before and we will say it again, Holding is a solid defender that has all the qualities to be a big time player for the Arsenal, so now that he has signed, and now that he is a regular starter for the club, he needs to show that he can be starting every week.
