Arsenal to end nervous Gooners’ agonising wait and announces Aubameyang has signed Three year deal, Ornestein tells fans
Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta was ‘pivotal’ to getting Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s new contract across the line, David Ornestein has claimed.
Aubameyang has been in the transfer headlines all summer as constant rumours in the media have led to constant speculation that he could leave the club and head over to La Liga or Seria A.
However, Arsenal are expected to end nervous Gooners’ agonising wait and announce Aubameyang’s new contract ‘imminently’, with the captain set to sign on the dotted line and confirmed he is staying at the Emirates Stadium.
The Athletic claim the Gabon international has agreed a new three-year deal that will enable him to become the club’s highest-paid player, and it will end any doubt that he is leaving THIS transfer window.
And Arteta was ‘pivotal’ to getting Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s new contract across the line, David Ornestein has claimed, he told the talkSPORT Breakfast on Thursday morning: “I don’t believe he’s put pen to paper just yet, but he will do and it’s fantastic news for Arsenal fans because after months of speculation the negotiations are complete,”
“I think he was always very happy to stay, it was just about striking the right deal.
“The negotiation process was started by Raul Sanllehi and after he left was picked up by director of football operations Huss Fahmy and technical director Edu.
“But Mikel Arteta was absolutely crucial to getting this process done. His intervention really escalated the process, his relationship with Aubameyang and his father, who is absolutely fundamental to his career, was pivotal to getting this over the line.
“Aubameyang and Arteta are extremely close and, if Arteta was not the Arsenal head coach, I’m not sure that Aubameyang would have signed this new contract.
“Arteta is leading this club in a very positive direction, they’re clearly going to be more competitive than they’ve been at any time in recent years, he’s building a nice squad.”
If the report is true and he is staying at the club, it will indeed be better than any deal that Arsenal could have wrapped up this summer
