‘ready to accomodate’ Gunners star hitman Aubameyang has Arsenal message on Pepe arrival
Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has admitted that he was happy to play in a different position to accommodate former Nice player Nicolas Pepe.
The Gunners did quite a bit of transfer business in the summer as Unai Emery finally convinced the clubs hierarchy to part ways with their cash and acquire a number of players to help the side get back playing for the Champions League and challenging for titles.
But no one cost more that club-record signing Pepe, who became one of the most sought after players of the transfer window after netting an impressive 23-goals last season, alerting the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool to his clear potential.
He is currently trying to get fit after missing the opening Premier League win against Newcastle at the weekend, and Aubameyang has admitted that he is willing to play in a different position to accommodate Pepe in the side.
“I have watched him and I know how he plays. We have tried to connect with him in training. For the moment it is going very good,” he said
“We are happy because we know he can help us reach our goals, so it is another weapon for us and that is very good.
“When I play as the striker I am happy but if the team needs help and I play wide, then I will do it.”
“Everybody is excited about [us playing together]. We will have time to play together and we will see. I am looking forward to it,” Aubameyang added.
“The next game we play at home and we will see what is the coach’s decision. It will be difficult for him to fit us all in but that’s the game.”
There was a feeling in the media that Arsenal acquired the services of Aubameyang as a possible replacement for Aubameyang, who was linked with a move to the likes of United ort a big money move to China.
But despite the fact that Pepe is still unproven at the top of the game, many fans are excited to see Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and the Pepe all playing alongside each other on a regular basis.
The lad is just the type of skilful, pacey winger that Emery has been keen to add to his squad since he arrived at the club, and he can adjust to the qualities of the Premier League, he could be a great long-term investment.
So we are also excited to see just how he fits into the side alongside his two world class counterparts, as it may mean that Emery loses one of his defensively minded players from the starting line-up.
