Koulibaly for just £69 million? Arsenal backed to sign defender in January window
Arsenal have been backed to sign a new defender during the January transfer window, with Kalidou Koulibaly on the list.
Look despite all the transfer speculation and rumours over the summer window that Emery was going to be backed in his chase to land some world class signings, The Gunners once again wasted their money on signing players that are the future, and that are past their best.
And inability to spend the big money on leader-type-players has started to cost the side dearly in the early stages of the season, as Granit Xhaka was this week stripped of the Arsenal captaincy following the incident in the 2-2 Premier League draw with Crystal Palace last month.
But there have been calls in the media for Arsenal to go out and spend some serious money on players that will come in and make an impact on the side, send a statement to the rest of the Premier League, and be a leader, someone like Koulibaly.
Koulibaly has been outstanding for Napoli over the past few seasons and his performances has attracted all sorts of interest from the games biggest clubs, with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Real Madrid and even Barcelona all joining Chelsea and Arsenal in the chase for the defenders signature.
He is valued at around £150 million, but there have been some reports in Italy which have claimed that the Italian giants may in fact be willing to let the powerhouse defender leave for just £69 million in the January transfer window, in order to balance their books and bring in a number of players to help improve their side.
And according to the ATHLETIC, Gunners boss Unai Emery will be hoping to get the funds he needs to help improve this back-line at the Emirates and in the process, save his job at the Emirates as his future hangs in the balance.
Look Arsenal have the financial power to go out and buy the kind of leaders that will help Emery out in his job, as he simply cannot pass the captains armband around and hope that it lands on someone that fans agree with.
If ARSENALare to get back to winning the big titles, then they need to change how the club was run under Arsene Wenger, or they will find themselves in this kind of situation on a yearly basis.
Ans the signing of Koulibaly would signal some real intent from Arsenal.
