Arsenal have handed an injury update on Beth Mead and confirmed that she could be out for months

Mead helped England win Euro 2022 last summer, earning the Golden Boot and the Player of the Tournament awards and She was also voted BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year and was runner-up in the 2022 Ballon d’Or

She is one of the main reasons why the Gunners ladies started the season in fine fashion and sat top of the WSL before losing to Manchester United ladies at the weekend in a shock result.

Mead sustained the injury late in Saturday’s Women’s Super League loss to United at Emirates Stadium and now the club have announced a worrying statement regarding that injury.

This statement was just released by Arsenal :

‘We can confirm that Beth Mead suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in our match against Manchester United at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

‘Unfortunately, this means that Beth is set for an extended period on the sidelines. She will see a surgeon in the coming days, after which further details on timescales will be established.

‘Everyone at the club will now be supporting Beth and working hard to get her back on the pitch as soon as possible.’

Mead just had the best season of her life and was looking to push on this year – so this injury will be a huge blow for her and the club.

She really is one of the best Womens players in world football and will be missed by Arsenal – but they will all be keeping their fingers crossed that Mead will be back sooner than expected.
