Arsenal boss Unai Emery opens up on why it was a good 5-1 loss to Liverpool

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has claimed there was a positive after his sides 5-1 loss to Liverpool at the weekend.

Liverpool remain the only unbeaten side in the premier League and are now ten points clear of defending Champions after another dominating performance, which saw them ship five against the Gunners.

Roberto Firmino scored a hat-trick, while Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah also found the net after seeing the Gunners take a shock early lead at Anfield.

But, despite the heavy loss to Liverpool, Emery believes the performance of Jurgen Klopp’s side gave his burgeoning squad an indication of just how far they need to improve.

He told BT Sport: ‘Three years ago we [Sevilla] played against Liverpool in the Champions League and now last year they played in the final of the Champions League.

‘They are an example for us. We need also to be demanding of our-self but also we need time.

‘We need to do this progress doing a step every day. Today this loss is good. Not a good result. But good to know how to do this step in our process for our future.

‘We have a very important match on Tuesday – we have to show we can recover and show a good performance.’

Are Liverpool now favourites for the Premier league title?

Arsenal have looked a formidable side this season and to ship five against them is a big surprise for many in football, especially since Emery spent so much money on acquiring defensive players in the summer window.

But this game showed fans that Emery still has a lot of work to do, and that he needs time to get the club challenging for a Premier League title, while Liverpool will be very hard to catch if they continue playing like they are right now.
