Emery announces ‘Arsenal have won nothing yet’ after superb Aubameyang hat-trick
Gunners boss Unai Emery has stressed that Arsenal ‘have done nothing yet’ after reaching the Europa league final on Thursday night.
Arsenal will play their London rivals in the final in Baku on May 29 after Chelsea’s dramatic penalty shoot-out win over Eintracht Frankfurt, after striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a superb hat-trick to clinch a 7-3 aggregate win against Valencia.
The Europa league is now firmly back in the grasp of Emery, who has already won this competition three times with Sevilla, as he looks to end the season as European Champions and also find an alternative route into the Champions League.
But despite many people believing they are firm favourites for the title, Emery has warned his players that they have won nothing just yet.
“It’s not finished yet, there’s no success yet, we have to play the final,” said the Arsenal boss.
“We are happy but we know that it continues to be difficult to win.
“We can be proud of the players, the work, the supporters here today with us. These two matches [Napoli in quarter-final and Valencia] were not easy and the mentality was perfect. We showed everyone today our character.”
There has been much debate about the Spaniard this season and whether or not he is the man to lead Arsenal back into the habit of winning trophies, but he has proven that he is more than capable of reaching finals with a team that is lacking in quality in key areas of the pitch.
Arsenal will be favourites for the Europa League title and they just need to keep their heads as Chelsea will be dangerous, but they also have weaknesses at the back that the Gunners attack can exploit.
If Arsenal do win something this season it will be a great achievement for the Spaniard, as he inherited a side that needs a lot of work in the transfer windows.
So many will be hoping that Champions League football is gained, as the Arsenal will then get a big budget, and will also attract the players who wants to pay in the biggest club competition in world football.
