Arsenal ‘are in talks’ to sign attacking midfielder Brahimi on bargain free deal this summer
Reports have claimed that Arsenal are in talks with attacking midfielder Yacine Brahimi, who is now a free agent.
With all the talk in the media over the past few months all suggesting that Unai Emery will not be handed the kind of money it would take to get the club back challenging for titles, the Spaniard has been lining up a number of summer bargains.
And with Emery keen to bolster his squad in the midfield area, reports on the Sky Sports website have now claimed that Arsenal have begun talks with Brahimi about a move to the Emirates.
Brahimi enjoyed the best goalscoring campaign of his career to date last season, netting 13 goals in 49 appearances as Porto finished second behind champions Benfica.
However, the 29-year is currently a free agent after running down his contract at the Portuguese giants as he seeks a fresh challenge away from the Portuguese Leagues.
But a deal with Arsenal is reportedly a long way off as personal terms on a switch to the Emirates Stadium are still a way from being agreed.
Brahimi may not be a superstar signing that many Gunners fans would like to see arrive this summer, but he would offer Emery strength in depth in a key area of the pitch.
As long as the Gunners do not offer him silly money to join, bringing him to the club over the next few days could be a very smart move from the club.
And if it does not work out, they could always sell him on for a small fee in January or next summer.
But Arsenal still need to delve into whatever transfer kitty they have this transfer window and bring in a few top-class players that will help the club get back challenging for more than a top-four spot, as this current set of players will once again struggle to challenge the likes of Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool for that four spot.
