Arsenal ‘have been financially bullied’ as record-breaking fee agreed
Gabby Agbonlahor believes Arsenal were financially bullied by Chelsea in the chase for Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykhailo Mudryk.
Mudryk is a player that has been on the agenda for Arsenal all season as they have kept a very close eye on his performances for Shakhtar – but despite all the rumours – they struggled to agree a deal.
The Gunners had two offers knocked back before it seemed like they had agreed a £62 million move for the lad – with Director Edu flying out to complete the signing of the talented winger.
However – at the very last minute – Chelsea swooped in and made arecord-breaking offer to Skahtar Donetsk that they could not refuse – a fee in the region of £82 million has been agreed and now Mudryk will become a Blues.
Now – after hearing the news that he will not be going to the Emirates -Agbonlahor has opened up and claimed that Arsenal were financially bullied by their London rivals: “With this transfer, Chelsea have bullied Arsenal, they have financially bullied them,” the talkSPORT presenter said.
“They went over and spoke to his agent and probably told him, ‘We’ll give you [the agent] more, we’ll give the player more in wages and we’ll give the club more money up front’.
“Arsenal were maybe going to give him £100,000 or £150,000-a-week, and it wouldn’t surprise me if Chelsea offered him £250,000 or £300,000-a-week!
“Chelsea can just turn up with an open wallet and say, ‘What do you want?’
“I think it’s a good signing, but it’s going to hurt Arsenal and it’s going to hurt Arsenal fans.”
