Arteta delighted with Smith-Rowe deal, Arsenal closing in on Maddison and Gunners get Griezmann boost in top Arsenal news…

Mikel Arteta has admitted just how delighted he is that Emil Smith Rowe has agreed a new contract at Arsenal

Smith-Rowe has made a real impact on the Arsenal side this season and has firmly established himself as one of the most creative players at the Emirates right now.

He is a player that Mikel Arteta rates very highly and a player that added a number of assists and goals to his name over the course of the season, but there has been big speculation about his future

The Gunners youngster has been the subject of intense interest from Aston Villa this summer, with the Midlands outfit having seen two bids rejected for the playmaker, as the club had no intention of letting him leave

Smith Rowe has now put an end to the speculation by committing his future to the club he has been with since he was 10 years old, and Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has opened up and announced his delight at the deal.

Arteta told the club website: “As we all saw last season, Emile is an intelligent player with excellent ability. His sharpness on the turn and exceptional vision have already made him a key player for us.

“His attitude and willingness to learn have also been very impressive. Huge credit to our team in our academy who have given Emile a great education and have worked superbly to help with his development through the age groups.

“Along with the first team staff, huge credit also goes to our senior players, who have played such an important role to help Emile develop, gain confidence and perform the way he did last season.

“I know the fans will join us in being delighted that Emile has committed his future to the club. We’re now looking forward to helping him develop further and seeing him become even more important to the strong young team we’re building.”

Diego Simeone has admitted that Manchester United target Saul Niguez is free leave Atletico Madrid this summer

The midfielder has been an integral part of Diego Simeone’s team in recent years, making over 300 appearances in all competitions, but having fallen out of favour at the club last season, there has been alot of speculation about his future

Arsenal are just one of a number of clubs that are reportedly interested in trying to secure a transfer deal for Niguez over the next few weeks, as Mikel Arteta wants to add another creative, top-level player to his squad

And now they have been handed as boost after Simeone confirmed that Saul is unsatisfied with his current role in the team, and says he won’t stand in his way if the club receive a suitable offer from a potential suitor in the coming weeks.

The Atletico boss told AS of the midfielder’s situation: “Last season he (Saul) spoke with the club, with us about his needs and what he spoke about was the option of having a position on the pitch where he feels more important.

“And I consider that Saul became Saul by playing everywhere, but he or many of those around him see it as something negative.

“He is very important for Atletico because he can play as a full-back, right-wing, midfielder. He gives us a lot of options to be able to count on him. He is a player who, in that version and playing how the coach needs him to, performs very well.”

Simeone added on the possibility of Saul moving onto pastures new: “We cannot put aside what is rumoured and talked about.

“If he has to leave, give him a big hug, wish him the best with the boys who gave us life and to continue being friends, as always. Either to Barcelona or elsewhere.”

Arsenal have been handed a real boost in their quest to get James Maddison all signed up this summer

The Gunners have been linked with the Foxes playmaker as a replacement for Martin Odegaard, who returned to Real Madrid at the end of last season following his loan spell.

And the Gunners have identified Maddison as the perfect fit, having seen the midfielder develop into one of the most creative players in the Premier League over the past few seasons.

Now, they have been given a boost in their chase after transfer insider Peter O’Rourke has now delivered a positive update in which he claims Arsenal may well have a chance to sign him.

“They’re getting encouraging signs that something could be done with James Maddison,” O’Rourke said on The Football Terrace.

“It seems Arsenal are ready to offer a couple of fringe players as well as a substantial fee.

Recent reports have claimed Arsenal are prepared to offer Reiss Nelson and Ainsley Maitland-Niles as part of the offer that could tempt Leicester into selling one of the clubs most important players.

Roundup…

Look, Maddison is a top class player that is worth alot of money, but despite the fact Arsenal are one of the biggest clubs in the game, they are not at the level they were just a a few seasons ago.

If they got it, it would be a great signing, but we believe he will be tearing it up for Leicester this coming season and not the Gunners

We believe that this is just one of those rumours that is there to get the Arsenal fans excited, and one that will probably not happen as he will still cost too much money to sign guys

But we could be wrong and the board may actually bring in some experienced quality
