Arsenal Women have signed Mariona Caldentey from Barcelona, abos Jonas Eidevall is delighted with the signing of the striker.
The 28-year-old leaves Barca having won 25 titles with the Catalan club. She made 302 appearances for the Spanish outfit, scoring 114 goals in the process.
Speaking on her arrival to the Gunners, Caldentey said: “I’m so happy to be here. This is the right time for a new challenge for me and Arsenal is the perfect place.
“I think what ARSENAL are doing as a club is amazing – on and off the pitch. I love the way we want to play as a team and I think there’s a strong mentality building here.”
And after seeing the striker make the move to London – Eidevall had his say: “I’m so happy to be here,” said Mariona. “This is the right time for a new challenge for me and Arsenal is the perfect place. I think what Arsenal are doing as a club is amazing – on and off the pitch.
‘I love the way we want to play as a team and I think there’s a strong mentality building here.
“It’s been incredible to see what the club has done away from the pitch, with supporters following the team everywhere and lots of records being broken. I can’t wait to get started and help the team win trophies and entertain our supporters.”
Head Coach Jonas Eidevall added: “Mariona is a world-class forward and we are delighted to bring her to Arsenal. She’s a winner with proven experience of excelling on the biggest stage, which is exactly where we aim to be at this club. We believe Mariona will be a superb addition to our squad here at Arsenal, as we prepare for an exciting new season together.”
ARSENAL FREE TO SIGN CALAFIORI –
Bologna have indicated that they will consider offers for Arsenal target Riccardo Calafiori.
The transfer window will give Mikel Arteta the chance to keep on adding to his squad over the next few months and start to add some more depth to the squad, along with a bit more quality in key areas of the pitch.
A new defender, midfielder, striker and possibly a stopper will need to get signed this summer transfer window – and with the backing of the board – Arsenal have been linked with some big time players already over the past few weeks.
The 22-year-old centre-back played a key role in helping Bologna finish fifth in Serie A last season, which secured their place in the Champions League for the upcoming campaign, and he is a player that Arsenal are very much interested in signing.
And now Bologna’s technical director, Giovanni Sartori, admits Calafiori could move on again if they receive an ‘important’ offer
Bologna technical director Giovanni Sartori told Sky Sports Italia: “There is talk of Juventus but also of many other teams. At this moment we will try to keep him. If important offers were to arrive, we will have to think about it.
“I am not saying that we will sell him because the president has said that he wants to keep the whole team, but we will certainly make some evaluations.
“I do not think he will go to Juventus, he will probably go in a different transfer window, but I repeat that we would like to try to keep him.”
Italian legend Massimo Ambrosini recently urged Arsenal to get a deal done for the star – Speaking to OLBG, Massimo Ambrosini said: “Riccardo Calafiori, from Bologna. He has had an incredible season. For me, he has everything to play at the top level and be in top Premier League squads in the future.
“He can play at centre-back, at left-back and under Thiago Motta in Bologna he started to move into midfield and even play like a striker, he has everything.
“He loves playing with the ball, Bologna were one of the first or second teams in the Italian league for possession so I think ARSENAL would be perfect for him.
“He could play in the middle or on the left, maybe in Oleksandr Zinchenko’s role. It would be perfect for him…”
ARSENAL MAKE WILLIAMS OFFER –
Reports have claimed that Arsenal have ‘put money on the table’ for the Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams.
The 21-year-old has banged in seven goals and grabbed 16 assists in 34 appearances for Athletic Bilbao this season across all fronts and is a player that is attracting some of the games biggest clubs.
It is no secret that Mikel Arteta is looking to add some more quality to his attack when the transfer window opens up and is keen to bolster his squad with another winger – to help cove injuries etc.
Now According to Spanish publication AS Arsenal have put the money on the table, ‘both for the club and for the player.’
It remains to be seen what the outcome is as it is known his preferred club is Barcelona. However, the Spanish giants will need to sell players first before sanctioning a transfer.
However – Charlie Watts suggests that the Arsenal signing of Nico Williams this summer could disrupt the squad- he was quoted on the SUN: ‘For Arsenal to immediately make him one of the highest earners would be a risk, because it could unsettle the squad a bit, especially if he were to come in and suddenly be earning more than some of the experienced players who have been at the club for a while.
‘So all that sort of thing has to be taken into account when it comes to potential deals.’

The numbers from Williams are amazing – the lad is amazing and under the guidance of Mikel Arteta – he could develop into a class winger. But adding another winger to the ARSENAL side on a massive wage could upset the feeling at the Emirates – as everyone believes they have a chance to play every week.
Adding another winger to the side with so many already at the club – that could cause issues.
