Arsenal confident first big signing will be completed – £60M man still keen on Emirates move

It has again been claimed that Man City star Gabriel Jesus is still keen on signing with Arsenal – and they are confident a five-year deal can be agreed.

Since joining City in 2017, Jesus has been in and out of Pep Guardiola’s team, with the Spaniard often deciding to play without a regular centre-forward.

But towards the end of this season, Jesus enjoyed a run in City’s team and scored in victories over Leeds United and Watford – as Guardiola gave him more of a chance in that starting elevel.

But the arrival of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund means he is likely to be relegated to the bench next term – and he has decided that a move away from the Manchester giants is what he needs.

There has been some suggestions that the fact Arsenal will not be playing in the Champions League next season will mean that they will not be able to complete a transfer deal for Jesus.

However, the Athletic claim the Gunners remain confident of securing Jesus’ signature and he is still keen to join, despite the prospect of Europa League football.

Discussions between Arsenal’s technical director Edu and Jesus’ representatives are said to go back months, with Arsenal putting in significant groundwork to securing the striker.

The news comes after former Premier League star Kevin Phillips suggested he could be the main man for Arsenal – he said: ‘It’s a big decision for him now.

‘He’s been playing in and around that Champions League spaces for a number of years now, and challenging for the trophy as well.

‘He has been almost a bit-part player for City. You’d imagine that for Arsenal, he would be the first choice.

‘Arsenal haven’t got the Champions League, but he can help them get there.

‘Jesus can be the main man for Arsenal, which can be the most important thing for any player looking to make a move. He will want to play week-in, week-out.’

Jesus is not the exact striker that we can leading that Arsenal attack to glory next season – but he is proven at the top level – can score goals against the best and has that experience that Arteta needs

He may not be the ideal answer to their issues – but he could be a very good signing for the club
