Director Edu reveals delight after Arsenal announce on club website that deal has been agreed
Rob Holding has signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal, the club announced on their club website
Since joining the Arsenal from Bolton Wanderers in July 2016, Holding has made 96 first-team appearances, winning two FA Cups along the way.
The highlight of Holdings’ first season was a superb performance in the 2017 FA Cup final, with his commanding display alongside Per Mertesacker ensuring we won the trophy with a 2-1 win over Chelsea.
This season has seen the player step up couple of levels and put in some brilliant performances that has firmly established Holding as one of the main squad members that Mikel Arteta now has available to him.
But despite the fact he was close to signing with Newcastle in the summer, he has now agreed a deal until 2024, with the option for Arsenal to extend that and keep him at the Emirates for a further season.
And upon signing Holding, Technical director Edu has revealed just why they were so keen to get the defender signed, he told the club website: “We are very happy to have signed Rob on a new contract extension. He is 25 years old, so is still coming into the peak of his career, and we are delighted that he’ll be with us during these important years.
“Rob has shown great quality and maturity on and off the pitch in recent months and is developing well. We are looking forward to Rob continuing his progression in the years to come.”
This is great news for the lad and shows that he has a big part to play in the coming seasons, so now many will be hoping that he keeps his head down, keeps working hard and develops into a top-class defender.
Great news for the man, and a good deal by the Gunners
