Transfer message opens door for Arsenal to try and sign Champions League proven star
Arsenal have been given the green light to try and sign Jonathan David after Newcastle were told to not make a move for the Lille star
David has had an impressive start to the Ligue 1 season and has netted nine goals and three assists in 14 appearances this season.
His performances have led to speculation that both Arsenal and Newcastle are interested in getting some kind of transfer deal done in the January window – as the two both looked to add some more depth to the squad
Arsenal only really have Gabriel Jesus as their main striker – and although Eddie Nketiah is a decent back-up – he is not the quality that David would bring to that Gunners squad if signed.
Newcastle have Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson as their two main men – but with the club looking to sign Champions League proven players – they are keen to rival Arsenal for his signature.
But When asked by Football Insider if it would be wise for the Tyneside club to spend big on David, Campbell has admitted that they do not need to sign the Lille star in the coming window.
He said: “I don’t think there is a need for David.
“Newcastle have already spent a lot of money on Isak. He started really well and then suffered the injury. I’m sure he is making his way back.
“I do not see Jonathan David ending up at Newcastle.
“Callum Wilson has been very good. Between Wilson and Isak they have got that position covered. I would like to see the two of them together as well.”

Look – Arsenal and Newcastle are two clubs that are heading in the right direction and honestly – David would be a brilliant signing for both.
If Newcastle want him – the Gunners will have to fend off the richest club in world football – so it will be interesting to see if they listen to Campbell
