Deal close! Rangnick announces Arsenal deal is close as star Smith Rowe arrives for medical

RB Leipzig manager Ralf Rangnick has confirmed Arsenal star Emile Smith Rowe is undergoing a medical.

Gunners boss Unai Emery is a fan of Smith Rowe having given him his senior debut in September and a total of six first-team appearances this season.

He is highly-rated at London Colney and the hope is he emulates Reiss Nelson’s progress during his season-long loan at Hoffenheim before resuming his career at Emirates Stadium.

Now the German side have announced that Smith Rowe has arrived for his medial ahead of his loan move untill the end of the season, telling their club website: “Yes, I can confirm that the player is in Leipzig. And that we’ll carry out the medical today.

“Then we’ll have to see that we have everything available to be able to complete the transfer today.

“If that is the case today, we do not have that much time left – everything must be done by 6pm (German time when the window closes) – then the player can come to us.

“At the moment this is not the case and I cannot confirm this transfer yet. If everything will work out, then I can still say something about it tomorrow.”

Leipzig are wary of a repeat of last season’s loan move for Ademola Lookman, who impressed during his time at the club but returned to Everton because no permanent transfer had been agreed.

Here is what we think.

Smith Rowe needs game time to develop so the news that he will be spending the next few months at the German side will be great news, as it is the right level for his ability right now. And if he impresses, maybe he will get more of a chance to shine next season under Emery.
