Gunners legend Dixon tells Arsenal boss Emery areas to improve this summer
Arsenal need to ‘improve in all departments’ this summer, according to club legend Lee Dixon.
Gunners boss Unai Emery splashed close to £70 million last summer to improve key areas of the pitch to help Arsenal get back inside the top four spots, but his first season did not go to plan.
Arsenal finished outside the top four spots, failed miserably in the domestic Cup competitions and lost to Chelsea in spectacular fashion in the Europe League final, putting pressure on Emery to improve the squad this summer.
It is believed that Emery has been lining up a number of possible attackers and defenders to come in and help take Arsenal back to the very top of the game, despite his measly £45 million transfer kitty.
But Dixon has opened up and claimed that Emery needs to improve in all departments this summer to get back into the top four next season.
Dixon told talkSPORT: “It’s a huge summer for Arsenal. It was always going to be a big summer regardless of where they finished and whether they got to the Europa League or not.
“I think Emery knew this season was going to end like this, to a point where we either got into the top four and got Champions League football or we didn’t quite. We failed on that front.
“So he’s got to look accordingly, and try to convince the board and powers that be to give him enough money to improve the squad.
“It does need improving in all departments, and lets hope we can keep hold of our best players in order to do that.”
Arsenal will not have a lot of money this transfer window, so improving the side in all departments may not be possible. But the Gunners do have some world class players in the squad and should focus on the back this summer.
The defence was the worst part of the squad last season, and with the club having two top-class strikers up top, the right signings at the back would send a real statement to the rest of the Premier League.
