Arsenal fans shocked after stunning Nicolas Pepe transfer claim made!

Unai Emery has claimed Arsenal FORCED him to sign £72m winger Nicolas Pepe – when he wanted Crystal Palace talisman Wilfried Zaha.

Zaha was in the headlines over the summer transfer window for all the right reasons, as some of the biggest clubs in the game showed an interest in the wingers signature after another impressive campaign for Palace.

However, despite admitting on numerous occasions that he is interested in a big move, Palace stuck a massive price tag on the head of the winger and nobody wanted to pay the massive £80 million price tag that was placed on the winger.

And in the end ex-Gunners boss Unai Emery decided to pay a massive £72 million to secure a club record deal for Nicolas Pepe, who was seen as more of a goal threat after an impressive 23-goals last season.

Now, Emery has opened up and admitted that he actually wanted to sign Zaha during the summer window and could not, as the board decided that a move for Pepe would be the right move to make.

Emery was quoted on the sun of Pepe: “He’s a good player but we didn’t know his character and he needs time, patience.

“I favoured someone who knew the league and wouldn’t need to adapt.

“Zaha won games on his own: Tottenham, Manchester City, us. Incredible performances. I told them: “This is the player I know and want”.

“I met Zaha and he wanted to come. The club decided Pepe was one for the future. I said: “Yes, but we need to win now and this lad wins games”. He beat us on his own.”

“It’s also true he was expensive and Palace didn’t want to sell.

“There were a series of decisions that had repercussions.”

Zaha is proven in the Premier League and would have been a great fit, so even though many Arsenal fans still have hope for Pepe, Zaha would surely have been the better signing?

But it doesnt really matter at this point as Emery is long gone and Arsenal have moved on from trying to sign Zaha, it seems!
