Arsenal fans fans told ‘they were lucky’ to keep superstar Manchester United target at Emirates
Arsenal are “very lucky” Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang did not push for an exit over the summer, according to Garth Crooks.
After netting an impressive 31-goals for the Arsenal last season, there was some shock speculation in the media suggesting that Aubameyang could push for a move away from the club, especially with big money offers from both Manchester United and an unknown Chinese club.
However, Arsenal managed to persuade the Gabon striker to stay put and ended all speculation by stating that he is going nowhere, with recent reports suggesting that he will be signing a new long-term contract with the Gunners.
But Crooks has come out and claimed that Arsenal were actually very lucky to keep hold of the striker, who has now netted both winners in the Gunners opening two games of the Premier League season.
“Arsenal are very lucky to have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang,” Crooks wrote in his BBC Sport Team of the Week column.
“He was messed around last season by Unai Emery and some players might have said ‘shove it’.
“He was often the chief architect of Arsenal’s victories in the big games last season.
“Burnley are not a big club but they are not afraid of those that are. The Clarets had enough chances to get something out of the match and should have done.
“However, with Aubameyang in his current form it was inevitable the Gabon international would put Burnley to the sword and he did.”
If AUbameyang wanted to leave the club for United or China, he would have. He would have come out and admitted that he wanted to leave the club, which he didn’t and it was just pure speculation linking him with a move away from the club.
Arsenal were lucky to keep hold of him, as he is one of the best strikers in the game right now. But they will not care too much about all the speculation as they are serious contenders for that top four spot with the impressive attack they have this season.
