Contract issues means Emery closes in on Arsenal deal for World Cup winner Gotze

Reports have claimed Arsenal target Mario Gotze could be on the move this January, after contract talks with Borussia Dortmund broke down.

There is no doubt in the media that Gunners boss Unai Emery needs to delve into his transfer kitty over the next few months and land some fresh faces, especially in midfield with the departures of Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.Henrikh Mkhitaryan.Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

And despite not fulfilling his potential over the years, there has been some speculation in the media that they may be tempted by a move for German International Gotze during the January transfer window.

Gotze, the 2014 World Cup winner, has never fulfilled the potential he showed as a youngster, though he enjoyed a relatively prolific season with Borussia Dortmund, scoring seven goals and creating a further seven.

The 27-year-old’s contract expires at the end of next season, and reports on WELT have claimed that talks over a new deal with Borussia Dortmund have broken down and stalled, meaning that the likes of Arsenal have been boosted in their chase for the German.

Gotze recently opened the door to a possible transfer deal after admitting that he’s open to leaving the Bundesliga.

“I am now going into my 10th Bundesliga season, so it’s logical foreign countries sometimes play a role in your thoughts,” Gotze told Bild.

“As a footballer, you have the privilege of being able to work in almost every country in the world.”

Gotze was once hailed as the next big thing in football and was ready to take the world by storm after netting the winning goal for Germany, but his career has nosdived since then and he does not look like the same player that dominated the Bundesliga under Klopp.

Emery may make a move to try and get the German in his squad to add some much needed back-up, but Arsenal are at that stage now where they need world class players in the squad, and signing Gotze wouldn’t actually improve the squad.

So he may not be the best of signings if Arsenaldo decide to make a transfer move.
