Boss Smith has Graelish transfer message for Arsenal ahead of possible £20 million deal
Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has warned Jack Grealish will not be sold on the cheap this summer, amid speculation Arsenal are keen.
With Gunners boss Unai Emery seeking to add some much needed depth to his Arsenal side over the next few months after the departure of Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck, there has been some talk that they could make a £20 million move to sign Graelish.
Graelish has been lighting up the championship this season for Villa and his performances for the club have also caught the attentions of Tottenham and Manchester United, who have sent scouts out on a number of occasions to watch the winger.
But it seems the trio will have to spend more than they anticipated, as Smith has announced that it will take a lot of money to sign Graelish if they do not make it back into the Premier League.
“He’s signed a brand-new contract at the start of the season, committing himself to the football club,” said Smith on the TalkSport website.
“He loves Aston Villa and he’ll want nothing more than to get promoted with Aston Villa. If we don’t go up he’ll cost someone a hell of a lot of money if they want to buy him. He is committed to Aston Villa and we’ve not even spoken about it otherwise.”
Villa are on the verge of getting back into the Premier League and Graelish will not want to leave the club if that happens, but if Arsenal do come calling with an offer of around £20-30 million, then Villa will be open to selling.
That is a lot of money for a club like Villa and they know that money could be used to invest in other areas of the pitch, especially as they will need cash to either compete in the Premier League or fight to get back in again next season, depending on if they beat Derby in the final.
However, Grealish would just be brought in to add depth to the side as he is not ready to be a regular starter at the Emirates.
