President opens up on if high-valued striker will leave for likes of Arsenal in January
Sporting CP president Frederico Varandas opened up on whether Arsenal and Liverpool-linked Viktor Gyokeres will leave the club in the upcoming January transfer window.
Swede Gyokeres has been a major hit in Portugal since joining Sporting from Coventry in July 2023 and become one of the most dangerous strikers in World football, hitting 43 goals for the club last season.
He was a player that ARSENAL were very heavily linked with signing during the summer window, but his massive asking price was a real problem for the Gunners, and in the end, the decision was not made to make a move for the striker.
Now Varandas opened up on whether Arsenal and Liverpool-linked Viktor Gyokeres will leave the club in the upcoming January transfer window. – Sporting president Varandas said: “It’s very, very difficult. Impossible is nothing in life so I can’t say that… but I’d say very, very difficult and complicated”.

Look, Gyokeres is a quality striker that could have been a great signing for ARSENAL – he will come at a risk for many clubs as the Premier League is alot better than the Portuguese League.
But with the new financial rules – it will be interesting to see if clubs are willing to pay that big money for the player in the coming transfer windows as he does have the potential to go on and become one of the best strikers in the game.
We are not sue which striker is top of the lost for Mikel Arteta – but Gyokeres is certainly a player that has the ability score 30 or 40 goals a season for the Gunners if signed.
