Arsenal have a new number 10 after Edu confirms midfielder has agreed five-year Gunners deal

Emile Smith Rowe has signed a new long-term Arsenal contract – and has been handed the No 10 shirt in the process

Smith-Rowe has made a real impact on the Arsenal side this season and has firmly established himself as one of the most creative players at the Emirates right now.

He is a player that Mikel Arteta rates very highly and a player that added a number of assists and goals to his name over the course of the season, but there has been big speculation about his future

The Gunners youngster has been the subject of intense interest from Aston Villa this summer, with the Midlands outfit having seen two bids rejected for the playmaker, as the club had no intention of letting him leave

Smith Rowe has now put an end to the speculation by committing his future to the club he has been with since he was 10 years old, and Arsenal technical director Edu has opened up and announced his delight at the deal.

He said on the club website: “This is another important step forward for us and we’re all delighted that Emile has signed a new long-term contract.

“It’s great to see another young player develop through our academy system to become a key part of our first team. Emile is a player who represents the future of the club and this is why we have given him the No 10 shirt. We have trust in Emile and we know he has the potential to be a beautiful player for many years to come.”

It was a massive shock to see that Smith-Rowe was linked with a move away from the club, but at the end of the day, he was never really going to leave was he?

This is great news for the Gunners as they were sick of all the rumours surrounding the gifted player.
