Man United told to sign Conte, Arsenal have money to sign duo, Tuchel makes Chelsea admission and Klopp issues exciting Konate message in news of the day….
Thomas Tuchel is set for a new contract through at least 2023 after helping Chelsea to a 1-0 win over Manchester City in the Champions League final
Chelsea were struggling well down the table, were struggling in the Champions League and looked like a side that was on the verge of bursting point, but then the hierarchy made the decision to bring Thomas Tuchel to the club.
And since his arrival to the Bridge, Tuchel has got Chelsea back into that Champions League, reached an FA Cup final and has now led the Blues to their second ever Champions League win after they stunned City.
Now reports on Goal have claimed that the board are looking to tie the German down to a nice big contract and keep him at the club until at least the end of 2023.
Tuchel hinted at his impending extension at his post-match press conference on Saturday.
“I’m not even 100 per cent sure, but maybe I have a new contract now,” Tuchel said. “It can be, my manager said something about it, but I do not know. So let’s check this first.
“I spoke to the owner right now on the pitch, this was the best moment for a first meeting. Or the worst, because from now on it can only get worse! We will speak tomorrow, speak later, speak tomorrow, and looking forward to this.
“I can assure him that I will stay hungry, that I want the next title and I feel absolutely happy, as a part of a really ambitious club, a strong part of a strong group. That suits my belief and my passion for football at the moment perfectly.
“So my desire is to go for more victories, to grow as a coach and to push the group on the first day of the next season to the limit. We have work to do to close the gap, and this is what I’m all about. And so it will be nice to meet him a bit closer.
“We are in contact but not personally, he knows what’s going on from me directly. But now it’s nice to meet him.”
Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool new boy Ibrahima Konate will immediately challenge for a place in his side.
After months of speculation and finishing the season without a trophy, Jurgen Klopp has moved quickly in the transfer window in order to add a new defender to his already world class squad.
Konate’s move to Anfield was confirmed on Friday, with Liverpool having triggered the release clause – understood to be worth in excess of £35 million ($50m) – in the defender’s contract with RB Leipzig.
Konate has agreed a five-year contract and will move to Merseyside on July 1, becoming the first signing of the summer for the 2019-20 Premier League champions, and after seeing him make the move to Anfield, Klopp told the club website: “I’m really pleased we’ve been able to add a player of Ibrahima’s quality to our squad and he is someone I’ve admired for a long time, ever since I first became aware of his potential when he was at Sochaux.
“After the problems we had with injuries in the centre-half position last season, there’s no doubt it was clear it was an area of the team we needed to strengthen, but I first have to say that the job Nat [Phillips], Rhys [Williams] and Ozan [Kabak] did was incredible. Unbelievable really.
“In Ibrahima we are signing a player who will add to the quality we already have here. His physical attributes are very impressive; he is quick, he is very strong and he is dominant in the air.
“He comes to us after playing more than 90 times for Leipzig in the Bundesliga and European football. I’m sure that number would have been more but for some injury, but even so that means he already has experience of what it takes to compete in two outstandingly difficult competitions.
“He also played for a team in the Champions League in high-pressure matches, who have a similar football vision to ourselves.
“I am confident we are signing a player who can play for us right away, but he is a boy of 22 years of age who has room to improve because of his massive potential. I know that’s something he is eager to work on with us to become an even better player.
“For me, that’s really exciting because I have seen how good he is already and I’m looking forward to working with him when he joins up with us in pre-season.”
Antonio Conte is exactly what Manchester United need, Simon Jordan has opened up and announced.
Conte is a man that is in high demand again this summer after helping Inter Milan win back that Serie A title from the dominant Juventus and then leaving the club as they did not meet his high ambitions.
Despite all his flaws, the results he gets are brilliant. He’s one five league titles with three different clubs (Juventus, Chelsea and Inter) and oversaw brilliant transformations for all three sides.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have helped the club finish second and reach a Europa League final, but there are many out there that firmly believe he is not the right man for the job and he is actually holding this very exciting squad from reaching their full potential.
Conte has also been linked with the Tottenham job but that’s a ‘match made in hell’ according to Jordan. But Man United is ideal for him and the club: “Antonio Conte is a difficult bugger but one of the few clubs that can harness his ambitions economically are Man United,” Jordan told talkSPORT.
“You want to win something in the here and now and to change the direction of the club, someone like Antonio Conte coming to Manchester United would probably be the fix that fixes all problems.
“He goes to places and wins things and he upsets everybody, he drives the ownership mad but I bet there’s a bunch of Manchester United fans who’d say ‘we’d welcome that because our owners are a bunch of disingenuous slobs’.
“If you want to win something in the here and now, he’s just come off the back of winning Serie A. Everywhere he goes he wins something of significance.
“But he does leave a trail of carnage. He left Inter Milan because they want to cut the cloth, reduce the wages because everyone’s bleeding out of their eyes financially and sell players. He doesn’t fancy it…
“Man United can afford this. They can afford someone who’s a little bit difficult about what he does and doesn’t want because Man United have got such a gap to bridge between themselves and Manchester City.”
Financial analyst Kieran Maguire says Arsenal have money to spend on players this summer, which opens the door to possible deals for the likes of Jack Grealish and Ivan Toney
The Gunners have faced fan protests in recent weeks with fans demanding more investment in the playing squad from the club’s owners, as the fans believe the board are not spending enough money to get the club challenging for titles.
The Gunners will not have European football for the first time in 25-year, have not won a trophy and are so far behind the likes of Manchester City, United and Chelsea that they need some serious money invested into the squad.
Arsenal borrowed some money from Barclays Bank to cover for the Covid Corporate Financing Facility loan they got last year, which covered losses brought about by the coronavirus pandemic, and Maguire says there were restrictions on what they could use the CCFF for.
But the new loan doesn’t have one and that means they have as much as £120million to spend on player recruitments, which means they could sign the likes of Grealish, who is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, and Toney, who has just helped Brentford reach the Premier League another a record-breaking season in the Championship.
He told Football Insider: “In terms of the Barclays loan, it’s Arsenal’s money to play with.
“The Barclays relationship gives Arsenal a greater degree of flexibility. That could be beneficial for the club because you don’t have to ringfence it in terms of day-to-day operational costs.
“The Kroenke family have got an awful lot of work to do to convince the Arsenal fans of their intentions. This new loan could be used for recruitment and retention issues.”
There is always talk that the board will spend and sometimes they do. But this is a time they really need to splash the cash or they will struggle again next season
