Arsenal hold talks with impressive winger Sarr as Unai Emery told Gunners players ‘to get excited’ ahead of Europa win
Reports have claimed Arsenal have held talks with Rennes winger Ismaila Sarr about a possible summer move to the Emirates.
Despite spending over £70 million in last summer’s transfer window, Gunners boss Unai Emery still needs to add players in key areas of the pitch and is widely expected to be busy in the summer transfer window, as rumours claim he could have over £100 million to play with.
And with midfielder Aaron Ramsey all set to depart the club and make a move to Italian giants Juventus, who fee they have a real bargain, Emery is looking to bolster his midfield in the transfer window ahead of a fresh push to challenge for the Premier League title.
and according to reports on the Goal France website, Emery was impressed by the performance of Sarri last week in the Gunners shock defeat in the Europa League and immediately got to work trying to tempt him to a move to London.
Sarr has scored nine times in the 35 appearances across all competitions this season and would provide Unai Emery with the pace and energy he craves in wide positions.
Meanwhile, Emery revealed the importance of winning the Europa League before Arsenal’s second leg with French side Rennes.
The Gunners were chasing a 3-1 defeat from the first leg against the French side but ran out 3-0 winners at the Emirates Stadium to book their place in Friday’s quarter-final draw.
Emery is still chasing a top four spot and Champions League football, but with the likes of Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United all in the hunt it will be a battle for the Gunners to finish in the top four and the Spaniard knows winning the Europa League means automatic qualification into the Champions League.
And Emery has revealed that he has told Arsenal’s players that they should be ‘excited’ by the prospect of winning a trophy ahead of their impressive 3-0 win, telling the Sky Sports website: ‘The Champions League is very important but the Europa League grew up a lot and now is giving every team the possibility to play in the Champions League.
‘In the domestic league, like here, we have six teams playing to be in the top four. Two teams are going out and the Europa League is giving us a big opportunity also to take one way to go to the Champions League.
‘And also, it’s one title. I said to the players today, I am excited about this competition. It’s not just because you can get to the Champions League through this competition.
‘It’s also because it’s one title and I think we can feel the possibility to win one title, doing this way with a difficult moment like today and playing also against big teams.
‘But I think we can feel this competition like in the Premier League, to do a good way and create, with our supporters, a big atmosphere and a big feeling together to do this way in the Premier League and also here in the Europa League. Together and stronger.’
