Board told to sell Midfielder for £100 million – ahead of potential Arsenal move
West Ham legend Sir Geoff Hurst believes the club should consider selling Arsenal linked Declan Rice for £100 million
Rice is a man that is seemingly in the headlines alot over the past few seasons after developing into one of the best holding midfielders in the game, and that has led to links with The Gunners
And amid all the speculation, Hurst has come out and told the Hammers board that they should sell Rice for £100 million should he opt to leave the club in the coming transfer window.
“I’m hopeful [he will stay] but not necessarily confident,” Hurst said in an exclusive interview with talkSPORT.
“It is a big issue for a young player with his outstanding talent at a club not in the top four or five.
“They’ve offered him a big contract and I’d like to see him at the club and stay.
“He’s absolutely brilliant, a decent lad and fantastic player and still to improve.
“[But]If you were to get £100million plus, which is a possibility, then you could strengthen the club with three or four players in different positions.”
He added: “I did a private Zoom call to him and said to him what I’d like to see him improving is scoring a few more goals, like Martin Peters.
“He can add a few more. Defensively, he is unbelievable. I think he’s too good to be just a defensive and holding midfielder.
“He’s magnificent at that, but he’s got a wider scope to improve and score more goals.”
Mikel Arteta has been told on a couple of occasions that he needs to make a move to try and sign Rice – but they do not have Champions League football – they will not pay £100 million for the player and honestly – is the Gunners a step up from the Hammers right now?
He wants to be playing Champions League football, he wants to be challenging for trophies and the longer he waits, the less time he will have to develop into the world class midfielder that most clubs believe he will become
