Italian claims Arsenal ‘are in talks with Raiola’ about £31 million summer deal
Reports have claimed Arsenal have entered talks with agent Mino Raiola over Roma star Kostas Manolas.
Centre-back Manolas is much sought after and has been linked with a move to Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid over the past few months after impressing on a number of ocassions for the Italian side, who currently value him much higher than his release clause
Arsenal were keen on Manolas last summer but a deal failed to materialise as Unai Emery did not have the required funds to complete a deal for the Seria A star, especially as he spent all his money on the likes of Bernd Leno, Lucas Torreira and Sokratis.
However, Arsenal know they need to start spending the big money and signing the kind of world class players that their rivals are currently acquiring if they have a chance of picking up the Premier League in the next couple of seasons, and Manolas is one of those players.
Now Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira claims the Gunners are discussing a £31million deal as the 27-year old due to a release clause in his contract.
And Arsenal are in talks with the Greece international’s agent Raiola, who was given a three-month ban by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) last week, which was extended worldwide by FIFA’s disciplinary committee.
“Arsenal are really interested in signing Kostas Manolas, who is expected to cost €36M (termination clause) from Roma,” Schira wrote on Twitter. “Contacts ongoing between Gunners and his agent Mino Raiola.”
Emery will see his Gunners side face Chelsea in the Europa League at the end of the month to become European Champions and book a place in the Champions League next season, which would mean that the board are willing to hand him more than £70 million in the window.
Manolas is a top-class performer that has proven himself at the very highest level of the game and if Arsenal are serious about getting back into the habit of challenging for the Premier League title, they need to complete deals like this when they become available to Emery.
Emery saw his side ship 51-goals in the Premier League last season and if it wasn’t for his attack, he would probably be out of a job by now.
