Benatia eyes January move as Arsenal interested in £35 million deal

Reports have now claimed Arsenal are eying up a move for Medhi Benatia, with reports he could leave Juventus in January.

Benatia is rated very highly across Europe as one of the most solid central defenders in Europe, and has been on the radar of United for the last few seasons, but a deal could simply not be done.

The defender was very happy at the Seria A Champions and it seemed that Juventus were more than happy to keep hold, but that all seems to be changing this season as Benatia has seen his game time limited.

And amid more speculation the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea are ready to reignite their interest this coming January transfer window, the TMW website claims Arsenal have joined the chase for a possible deal after Benatia admitted he will consider his future if his game time doesn’t improve under Max Allegri.

He was quoted on the CalcioMercato website: “I struggle to play with no consistency. I was doing well last season because I was playing on a regular basis. Now it’s not the same. This is my job and I always need to work hard to be ready to play but it’s a situation I don’t like.”

“I am 31 and I want to play as much as I can. Let’s see what happens in January, how many games I will play. Let’s see if Juve and Allegri need me. I am here to give my best and that’s what I will do until I’m here. If the mister will need me in the Champions League I will be ready.”

Could Benatia be a good buy for Gunners boss Unai Emery?

Emery spent a ton of money in the summer transfer window trying to build a defence that would be capable of challenging for more than just a top four spot, and although they managed to win eleven games on the spot, they are lacking that world class defender at the back.

And at the age of 31, Benatia has the expereince and quality to come in and make a real difference, if they can beat off the competition for his signature.
