Kevin Phillips has told Arsenal to sign Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse this summer.

Now there is alot of speculation in the media suggesting that Granit Xhaka could be a player that will depart the Emirates in the summer, with a move to Italian football and Roma on the agenda.

That has led to many reports in the media that Mikel Arteta will need to add a couple of midfielders to his squad, and there have been so many names linked with the club, fans are wondering who will come in

But amid all the speculation, Phillips has opened up and told the Arsenal board that they need to try and secure the services of JWP, the Saints midfielder who is regarded very highly in the Premier League.

“Ward-Prowse is the sort of player Arsenal need,” Phillips told the Football Insider.

“Technically he is a very, very good player and he’s a dead-ball specialist. He’s the sort of player Arteta would love in his squad I imagine.

“Could they get him out of Southampton? That’s the question. He just signed a new deal and I think he’s happy there. It would be a big test if Arsenal could knocking though. He could be persuaded to join.

“Ward-Prowse is the sort of player Arsenal need to be looking at in the summer. He’d compliment Partey well and let’s be honest, there’s not many better set-piece takers than him in the world.”

Ward-Prowse is the type of player that many managers would love to have in their squads, he really is a great football and a great leader. Arsenal fans would love him at the club, and he would bring so much.

He is very loyal to the Saints so any move would have to be tempting enough for him to want to leave. But he really would be a great signing for Arsenal
