£92 million rated Frenchman opens up on possible summer move to join Arsenal
Long-term Arsenal target Thomas Lemar has ruled out an exit from Atletico Madrid this summer, despite a difficult first season in La Liga.
Lemar was a sensation during his time at Monaco, with his performances there earning him a place in the triumphant France squad at the 2018 World Cup, and linking him with a move to the Emirates.
The Frenchman arrived at Wanda Metropolitano last summer for a club record fee of around £68m, but his place in Diego Simeone’s starting lineup has come under question with a number of questionable performances for the Spanish giants.
And that has led to speculation in the media that he could once again be making a summer move, with the Gunners once again linked with a move as they seek to add another winger to their ranks.
However, with Unai Emery only having a small transfer kitty to play with this summer, the Gunners interest in the Frenchman has wavered and they have turned their attentions to the likes of Nicolas Pepe and Wilfred Zaha.
And Lemar has seemingly ruled out any possible exit this summer by admitting that he hopes to do better next season.
The French winger told beIN Sports: “I’m at Atletico and I’ll be back next season. I still want to progress. I wanted to do it this season, I will try to do even better next season.”
At one point Lemar was close to a move to the Emirates, but the gunners pulled out at the very last minute as the £92 million asking price was too much for the club to pay.
Lemar may not have had the best first season at Madrid, but there is a big feeling that he will come good and the Gunners will keep a close eye on his development, as a future move could be made in the future.
