Arsenal make £72M transfer decision – Arteta wants £80M ace – Arsenal interested in £50M man
Here is a roundup of the top Arsenal news and gossip from icfootballnews that we think you guys may have missed today –
ARSENAL are reportedly interested in Barcelona star Ferran Torres as they look for attacking reinforcements, and he would be a statement signing according to reporter Iomie Stanley.
Torres, who has scored 15 goals in 35 Spain caps, last played in the Premier League for Man City – scoring 16 goals in 43 games across all competitions.
He has notched 14 goals in 67 games across all competitions since joining Barcelona in January 2022 – but he has not been a regular starter for the club and is now one of the players that the club are open to letting leave.
The Spaniards knows that they will need to get rid of a few players in the transfer window as they are keen to bring in a few players, and now it seems that Arsenal are interested in a move.
WHAT IS THE LATEST – According to 90min, Mikel Arteta is interested in bringing the Spaniard to the Emirates.
Torres has previously worked with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta during his time at Manchester City.
And amid the speculation – Stanley has opened up and claimed that Torres could be a statement signing for the Gunners – he said: “It’d be exciting, definitely.
“This transfer window, Arsenal couldnt afford to be going in for average players, if they really want to win that Premier League title and beat Man City, they’ve got to push on and sign big players.
“Mikel Arteta will know he has a squad of maybe 20 players who he is happy with. The rest will be free to move on.
“ARSENAL need better quality beyond that starting eleven and a few subs.
“Torres would help Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, and I think it’d be a real statement signing.
“He’s only recently won trophies with Man City and he’s won the League with Barcelona – so he would be a signing that has played at the highest level of the game, impressed and won trophies in the process.’
“The only issue may be his asking price – as Barcelona will surely want close to £80 million for the Spaniard.’
PEPE DECISION –
Arsenal are planning to terminate the contract of £72million signing Nicolas Pepe if they fail to find a buyer.
After making a real name for himself in the French Ligue 1 – the ARSENAL board made the massive decision to splash £80 million to bring Pepe to the Premier League.
Pepe scored 27 goals in 112 appearances in his three seasons at Arsenal but struggled to make an impact in his final campaign under Mikel Arteta. The Ivory Coast international was allowed to leave Arsenal last summer as he joined Nice on loan for the full season.
Pepe enjoyed a decent season with the French giants – but was plagued by injuries over the last few months of the season which has hindered his game time in Ligue 1 – and his ability to score the goals he was at the beginning of the season.
WHAT IS THE LATEST –
Nice had little interest in making Pepe’s loan move permanent, meaning that he returned to the Gunners this summer. The 28-year-old was not included in Arsenal ’s pre-season tour of the United States and the club are keen to conclude his exit this transfer window – ideally for a transfer fee, but if they fail to land a figure Pepe could still be on his way out.
IS IT TIME FOR PEPE TO LEAVE?
The short answer is YES he needs to go.
Now he is back at ARSENAL – if he stays he would find himself sitting on the bench and watching his career pass him by. He needs that move away from the club.
There are too many good players in the squad ahead of him that will always play.
LAVIA INTEREST –
journalist Rudy Galetti has claimed that Arsenal are one of the clubs that are interested in Romeo Lavia.
Lavia made a real name for himself last season in the Premier League with some impressive performances attracting some of the biggest clubs.
It is believed that Southampton do not want to sell the midfielder – but if clubs meet the £50 million asking price then they will allow him to make the move – especially as he doesnt fancy a season in the Championship.
ARSENAL boss Mikel Arteta has got the business that they had hoped for this transfer window – but is looking to get a few more deals done before the end of the summer and completely worry Man City.
WHAT HAS BEEN SAID?
While talking about Lavia, Galetti claimed that the Emirates-based outfit are operating the deal in the ‘background’ while Liverpool are being the more proactive suitor.
Speaking exclusively to GIVEMESPORT, he said: “On the Arsenal side, the Gunners showed interest some days ago at the beginning of July but they have to manage some exits before they make concrete moves in the market.
‘One of many on his way, for example, is Thomas Partey but they have to go deeper in the situation and so they are quite locked in the market as told.
“At the moment, they are more in the background for Romeo Lavia and to date, we can consider Liverpool the club most interested in Romeo Lavia.”
WILL ARSENAL MAKE A FIRM OFFER?
Lavia is valued at £50 million and that is probably why ARSENAL will not make a move for the midfielder as their midfield is pretty stacked already.
Partey looks like he is staying so he will not need to be replaced – so even though Lavia would be a very good long-term investment, he is not needed at the Emirates right now.
