Arsenal have reportedly made an offer to Sporting Lisbon for in-demand defender Ousmane DIomande

Over the last few seasons – Mikel Arteta has got this ARSENAL side from challenging for a top six side into challenging for that Premier League title – something that nobody could have predicted.

There is still a lot of speculation surrounding the players that Arteta will look to sign during the summer window, especially with the rumours that Gabriel is a man that could depart the club at the end of the season.

That has led to some rumours in the media which have claimed that ARSENAL tried to get a transfer deal done for Diomande in the last few days of the last Summer window, but a €35million (£30m) bid rejected.

Diomande, who has an €80m release clause, quickly became a regular in the Sporting defence following his arrival at the start of the year, making his European debut against the Gunners in the Europa League.

The Gunners’ manager Mikel Arteta is keen to bolster his defence at the end of the season and Diomande, 20, has stood out in his eyes after some impressive performances in Portugal.

At the beginning it was Chelsea that led the transfer chase with an offer of €60million (£51m), plus bonuses, but according to Record, however, Arsenal have matched their rivals’ bid for the Ivory Coast international.

Reporter Iomie Stanley has said that he could be a very good signing for the club – he is a unit – he told icfootballnews: ‘Diomande has been very impressive this season and it would be interesting to see if he could handle the pressure of playing for one of the big clubs in the Premier League.

‘And the fact that he would add depth to the squad for not a lot of money, it could be a great buy from that Arsenal board and could be a player that adds some more quality to that Gunners squad.

‘£70 million is alot of money for the lad – but he is a real unit and sombody that would add more quality to that side.’
