Gunners legend has £50m transfer message for Arsenal and Man United over impressive prem star Bassika
Ray Parlour has described the fee being mentioned for Manchester United and Arsenal target Aaron Wan-Bissaka as ‘extortionate’.
The Crystal Palace defender has been linked with a move to Old Trafford all summer, with the latest reports suggesting a bid in excess of £50million will be sufficient for the Red Devils to get their man.
Arsenal have also been in the chase to land the gifted right-back as Unai Emery seeks a cover for the injury-prone Hector Bellerin, but has been run out of the chase with reports he will only be handed around £45 million to buy new players this summer.
But Parlour lambasted the rumours and has admitted that the price for the young man is ‘madness’.
“It is madness, absolute madness,” Parlour said told talkSPORT.
“I really like him, I think he’s an excellent player and I’ve seen him on quite a few occasions.
“His defending is very good and he gets forward. But for £65 million, it’s crazy.
“Look at those Ajax youngsters, they’re only young. They’ve not really done anything yet. They’ve really shown that they can play in an Ajax shirt and have done really well in the Champions League but they’re going for £70-80 million as well.”
Arsenal and United both need to improve their sides in the coming months if they are to seriously challenge for the Champions League spots next season, but paying over the odds should not happen.
Wan-Bassika is a talent that is going places, but he is not worth anything more that £30-40 million, and Palace are crazy to think they can get much more than that for a player that is still developing.
If United or Arsenal do play more than £50 million for the man, it is not a good bit of business and they should just wait a couple of seasons before making such a move, as the lad will then have the time to develop into a player that is worth over £50 million.
